Default Blu-ray drive not working

Hey there, I bought the bdu-x10s because I had thought my last dvd-drive had quit working. Well, I've come to find out that it wasn't my last drive, I can't read any type of media through my drives and I have no idea. All the latest firmware for my mobo and all peripherals are updated, I'm on vista x64 sp1 with the latest updates. It does show up under "my computer" but neither it or my last drive read anything I put in there. Please help me, I want to play my new games...

What do you mean by the drive being unable to "read" anything? Do you mean you can't open up the drive on My Computer and browse or it just flat out won't work, no matter what program tries to read it?

A couple suggestions:

There's a very nice program called VideoLAN (which you can download here) which can play pretty much any type of media under the sun. Pop a DVD into your drive and try playing it with VLC. If VLC can't play it, then there is something very wrong indeed.

Try the Blu-Ray drive in another computer, there is a possibility that both drives are bad (even though it's a very slim possibility, good to rule it out).

Did your last drive use SATA or IDE? It could be a bad SATA cable, cables can go bad too.

If you had a different version of Windows laying around you could see if it's just Vista x64 that's giving you problems (You wouldn't have to do a reformat, just make a little 10GB partition and do a dual-boot). In fact, if you can boot from a Windows install disk that would prove that the drive itself works and rule out any hardware factors (Maybe this should be at the top of the list? lol).

Hope I helped.

The drive shows up under my computer but when I put in a cd, dvd, bluray it does not let me explore the disc and says there is no disc in the drive. so no games, movies, music.

I don't have another computer to put this is in.

The bluray is sata, the other drive was ide. It was working this morning, I did not install anything before it quit working, all after.

I don't have a different version of windows since I lost the key.
