Default Review: Logitech MX 1100 Cordless Laser Mouse.

Hello there and welcome to my review of the Logitech MX1100 cordless laser mouse. I would like to first state that I have owned quite a few mice and I like to think that I am educated enough to be able to give a solid opinion and review of them. I own/owned the Razer Diamondback, 2 Razer Copperheads, Razer DeathAdder, Logitech G5, Logitech G7 and now the Logitech MX 1100. Just like anyone else I have used a plethora of other lower-grade mice but they are not worth mentioning here. I just got this mouse in the mail today and have only used it for a few hours, but I will update this thread as time goes on.

The following information was taken directly from the official Logitech website.

One spin and you’ll never go back.
  • MicroGear™ Precision scroll wheel with hyper-fast scrolling: Lets you fly through long documents and Web pages with one spin. Or, shift to click-to-click mode to scroll through lists and photos.
All the benefits of a cord with the convenience of cordless.
  • Logitech's advanced 2.4 GHz wireless: Dramatically reduces interference with 300 times faster data rate.* Virtually no delays or dropouts.
You're in control.
  • Adjustable-dpi laser engine: Provides two smooth-tracking modes (up to 1600 dpi) for customizable precision. Choose the dpi setting that's right for you—from pixel-precise to ultra-fast for customizable precision.
  • Stealth thumb button: Makes it easy to jump from one program to the next. One of ten programmable buttons that put total control at your fingertips.
  • Extended battery life: Minimize the hassle of changing batteries with nine months of battery life.** On/Off button saves even more power. Battery-indicator light eliminates surprises.
I purchased the MX 1100 from NewEgg for $49.99 after a mail in rebate. As you can see the mouse was packaged nicely unlike my DeathAdder that I purchased from Amazon.com.

The below pictures are of the packaging and contents. The contents include the mouse itself, the USB receiver, a software disc and a manual. The mouse was packaged nicely but it was a bit hard to get to. No big deal of course.

Now onto pictures of the mouse itself. I tried to get a lot of different angles to give you an idea of how the mouse is shaped and how it will feel in your hand.

This picture shows you where you will be placing each part of your hand. The left side is of course just for your thumb, and I found that to be very comfortable. My pointer and middle fingers are also comfortable resting on the left and right click buttons. My ring and pinky fingers cannot seem to find a "home." They don't feel quite right when I have both of them on the right side of the mouse, and there isn't enough room for my middle and ring fingers to rest on the right click button. I think this is because I have fairly large hands. I cannot quite rest my palm on the mouse and I cannot quite "claw" grib the mouse either. I just need some more time to figure out how to hold the mouse.

The next picture shows you a few different components of the mouse. The scroll wheel, DPI adjuster, the Microgear button and of course the left and right click buttons. First of all, this is the best scroll wheel that I have ever used. It has two settings, a smooth "precision scroll" or the more traditional "click-to-click." Simply switch between the two by pressing the Microgear button. (behind the scroll wheel)The so-called precision scroll is amazingly smooth and fast, its great for jumping to the beginning and the end of a long document or web pages. You can 'flick' it down and it will keep spinning and spinning. My only gripe about the scroll wheel is the tilt function. It is a little loose when you go to tilt to the left or the right.

The DPI switcher is also convenient and out of the way. I never use DPI buttons but I know there are a lot of people that do for FPS games. It can easily be changed to another function for people like me that don't have a use for it.

The left and right click buttons are actually a bit narrow for my liking. This is largely due to the fact that my previous two mice were the Razer DeathAdder and Razer Copperhead, both of which have overly large left and right click buttons. The MX 1100's left and right click buttons are very responsive and quite 'clickly.' They make a bit of noise when used but it is really no big deal.

This next photo shows the thumb rest as well as two more side buttons. As I said above the thumb rest is very comfortable, and there is even a hidden "stealth" button beneath it. It is a little awkward to press my thumb down to press a button on the mouse, and the button can be hard to find at times. Just takes some getting used to, thats all. See below for the stealth button's default function. The two side buttons are responsive and easy to find when gaming. Their default function is forward and back in a web browser.

Some more angles of the MX 1100.

Here we have the underside of the mouse. Not much to talk about here. Simply slide the button over and the battery case pops right off. 2 AA batteries are required.

Some comparison photos with the MX 1100 next to my Razer DeathAdder

This picture shows what the default function of the steal button is which hidden beneath the thumb rest. It is called application switcher, and to be honest I find it to be completely useless. It can also be changed to open a document flip window, which does the same thing but it lists the programs in a small window. Still pointless for me. The last unique thing this button can do is quickly open up a search engine in your web browser. Nothing special there either.

The last two pictures show the various settings of the Logitech Setpoint Software. You can see you have your basic functions such as the pointer speed and acceleration. You can also change the function of every button besides the left and right click buttons.

As of now I would give this mouse a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best. I am having some minor issues with the accuracy of the mouse which is due to it being cordless. There is very minor lag which I cannot get rid of yet, and it can be difficult at times to accurately move the cursor a very short distance.

The scroll wheel is indeed the best one that I have ever used, but every time I tilt it, I realize how loose it is and that bothers me. My hand is also not entirely comfortable with the MX 1100 yet, which is the most important feature of a mouse. A mouse can have all of the best features but if it isn't comfortable it isn't worth it.

The Setpoint software is nice and easy to use, but it was a big download at 51.3MB and feels bloated. I just don't see the need for such a hefty application for a mouse.

Thanks! To be honest at the current time I am thinking about returning this mouse. The lag is seriously difficult for me to overcome. If for example I have to move the mouse a very short distance to click a link there is a delay in the cursor's movement, which makes me move the mouse further than I need to and I overshoot the link. I am not sure if there is something in the software that I am missing, if it is simply because the mouse is wireless or if it is a hardware problem. I have a hard time thinking it is software related because I have adjusted settings in Setpoint quite a lot. I also don't think it has to due with it being cordless because my old G7 never had this problem, not that I can remember anyway.

Ay any rate I emailed Logitech Customer Support to see if there is something that I am missing or if there is a fix. I don't want to have to return the mouse to Newegg either because I have to pay to ship it back and they charge a 15% restocking fee..

I was hounding Logitech forums for this mouth pior to launch. I picked mine up from Office Max on its release date. I had been using a MS mini laptop mouse for about 4 years so going to this huge mouse took some time getting used to. Now after a few months I love how it feels and moves.

I dont have any problems with lag and I find it to be just fine in COD4/W@W and BF2 matches. I just wish the side buttons were a little more pushed back.

I noticed you have a different color scheme with your MX1100. Mine is all black, while yours is gray/black.

Well I contacted Logitech via email support about the lag and they are willing to replace the mouse, in other words it could indeed be a hardware issue. (faulty mouse) I'm not sure that I want to RMA the MX 1100 though, I think I like my DeathAdder better anyway because it is very precise and accurate and also fits my hand better than the 1100. At this point in time I am considering returning the mouse to Newegg (sucking up the shipping and restocking fees) and purchasing a Logitech G9.

A couple of years ago I bought an MX1000 cordless laser mouse when my logitech MX518's left click stopped working. And needless to say I had the EXACT same gripe with it that you did. The lag. There was no way in hell I could game with that mouse. There was a noticable delay, and after about an hour of use I got so fed up with it I had to return it. I bought it locally so that was no big deal. I actually got a mx400 performance laser corded mouse and for teh most part have been pretty happy with it. Has most of the same buttons as the MX1000 did, maybe a couple less but I didnt really need more anyway. And as with all Logitech mice, the thumb buttons should be set back towards teh palm farther. The front button is totally useless for me in gaming. But my MX518 was teh exact same way.

Update - I am returning my Logitech MX 1100 to Newegg and have already purchased a Logitech G9.

I had a series of emails with Logitech about the lag I was experiencing with the MX 1100 and the conversation eventually led to about it being a hardware issue. I was offered a replacement but I decided to return the mouse to Newegg and purchase a G9. I had to bite the bullet and deal with the shipping and restocking fees of about $24 total. I did this because I found the MX 1100 uncomfortable for pretty much the right half of my hand and that I already have a Razer DeathAdder that is much more comfortable, accurate and precise. Mind you that I generally use mice with a claw grip and have large hands. The shape of the MX 1100 definitely favors people with a palm grip.

I have full intentions of making another review of the Logitech G9 within the next several days.

The MX1000 is still the best mouse I have ever owned. I like it much better then the G5 or the G7. Also the MX Revolution has nothing on it.

It is not really a gaming mouse per se because of how "heavy" it is. But it has the most amount of buttons of any logitech mouse, and if you replace the feet with teflon feet or have a good mousepad the weight wont even be a issue for gaming.

I have never noticed any lag at all on my MX1000, nor has my other friends who also own the mouse. I have replaced the battery in the MX1000 already once, and am about to replace it again. The only bad thing is you have to open it up and manually solder in a new battery.

Dude, I'm having the same problem, its actually lagging like crazy, that I shipped it in logitech and got another one, but this one is also lagging like crazy, if not, worst. Its only 3 feet away from reciever and nothing is in the way, I can't connect logitech since their email support is down until the 28!

I just bought this mouse two days ago and I've been using it since. The lagging problem doesn't seem to be that severe, and I believe the reason it happens on my machine is because the power saver feature(I'm running 0.8GHz on a 2.8GHz CPU), so that can be a possibility. The lag only appears in once every 2 hours or so. On the other hand, I do notice the scrolling wheel making sounds while I move left and right, changing it to the standard scrolling helped.
