Hey guys, my CD Drive wont open.. i got it quite awhile ago, probably around 5 years.. The problem is, i press the button and it wont open ; i restart my computer and it will stay at the 'DETECTING IDE DRIVES' and freeze.. When i put a paper clip into the CD thing, it opened.. i tried it again, and the light under the CD Tray keeps blinking very fast. I tried the paperclip thing again, and it never opened, and the light stopped Blinking..

Does this mean my CD-Drive is basically dead? =/

Sounds like it is dead or the ide cable is bad. You can always take it appart to get the cd/dvd out since the door doesnt open anymore.

Try opening it with the paperclip with the power off.

On some CDRW's it messes with older CD drives.
Remove the CD with power off then boot and see what happends.

yeah if it is blinking that fast check the IDE cable. otherwise after that long, I would by far guess it is dead.
