When my dad got home yesterday, he setup his laptop, connected to our network...and his DVD drive stopped working, but before he connected it worked fine and he even burned a CD on it.
Now it won't read anything but is still recognized my device manager...What could be the issue here guys? Trojan...network worm or something? It can't be a hardware problem unless its pure coincidence that the internet and DVD drive on his laptop randomly stop working when he connected to our home network.

sometimes firewall's will block the dvd drives on a laptop. They see that the device is trying to do a background operation and will block it. Go into the firewall settings and look for "[Brand] DVD Drive" or some similarly named program and give it full allowance. My dad had the same issue with his. GL!
