I had an mx518 that after about a year of use started randomly powering down/powering back up. The USB disconnect/reconnect sound would play at the cursor would go dead for 2-3 seconds. It got more frequent and worse.. often it would disconnect/turn off but not reconnect, so I'd have to manually unplug it and plug it back in.
__________________So I replaced it with another MX518, which ran for about 9 months before it started having the same problems. So I temporarily used my backup, an MS intellimouse. After a week of this, now this mouse is starting to exhibit the same behavior. I tested the mice in a backup computer and after they start having these problems on my system, then they also start having the same problems on that system. Is my motherboard somehow giving improper USB electrical output to the mice and eventually killing them or something?

How long have you had the motherboard? IF its not too late, RMA it
Not sure how long DFI warranties their boards for..

Seen it many times.
__________________Over voltages can kill your USB devices. If a resistor, or set of resistors begin to fail in your system, it may cause excessive voltages to come through. You should also pay attention to how clean your boards are. The setup of your workstation is also important (be sure you have no crimped wires). Get a CHEAP usb mouse - and continue to use that one. Just to confirm that the same thing happens. If I were in your shoes, I'd RMA if I had the choice. But if not - Id attempt an electrical investigation / possible repair.

Problem here is that DFI has by far, the worst CS ever. They also don't RMA jack, so your are kinda looking at a new board. It's a shame as well, since your board is a great OC'er, but since socket 775 is getting really cheap now, you can pick up a great board for next to nothing.

A thought - I typically plug my mice into the top (case) USB plugs. My other USB devices that are usually plugged directly into the motherboard haven't yet seem to have encountered problems. Could there be some problem that the case's USB ports is causing? A short or something?
