Hey all.
I've got a question for you all. i'm wondering if something has already been done and if not why not? let me explain my theory. instead of having lazer tracking on a mouse which relies on a smooth non reflective surface and is also not very accurate unless you get very high dpi mice. Why isint it possible to completly do away with lazer tracking and instead use a motion system like what there is in the infamous Iphone surly this would equate to more precise movement tracking it could be used on any surface at all and there would be no need for high dpi mice as this would track every exact movement you make would be great if i could get some input on this because i've been thinking about if it would be possible i think it would be a breakthrough for precise gameplay

think about this:
what do you do when you have twisted your wrist all the way to the right but your mouse has not yet reached where you want it to on the screen? you pick it up and adjust it right? now what if every time you moved your mouse AT ALL the mouse moved? you would no longer be able to pick up the mouse without your cursor following. i am not saying there is no solution for it, but that is the first issue that strikes me. also, those motion sensors pick up only acceleration. if you are moving it at a constant speed along a flat surface then it will not register the movement.

good point i suppose but with the picking up problem what about a very sensitive wieght switch underneath so that it temperally disables the motion device inside allowing the pick up put down moanover you mentioned. or how about just doing away with having to have the mouse on the table at all and have it as a gesture handheld device ie you tillt hand slightly left and the mosue will move left untill you readujust your hand to the central posistion.

there is alot of research going into alternatives to mice right now and some of it is very similar to what you were saying. you should look into it, there are lots of really cool ideas. they all have their ups and downs though.

I like your idea. To use your hands within a field of vision of some sort of camera would be awesome, too.
