Hi all,
I was googling around for gaming surfaces and came across a few threads on this forum talking about certain surfaces working best with certain mice, or certain types of laser. So, as I've got the G5, does anyone know of the surface(s) which work best with my mouse? Thanks. |

![]() Really, with mousepads price != quality. Most things will work well with the G5.

My Steelseries is pretty good.
Basically, there is no "best". Just whatever you like the best. Some like cloth, some like hard pads. You can even get glass pads.

Pretty much any flat, nonreflective surface will work good. I use a "mousepad" because I want to, not because I need one. IMO, they're a leftover from the old days when mice had a ball being mechanically tracked by an optical sensor and the ball needed to be kept clean.
FYI - I use a Rocketfish Gaming Mousepad

Some mousepads are better for speed while others are better for precision tracking.
I personally use the table it offers me a good in between. Pick one out by the way you play games/use your mouse, if you're a person who likes to move the mouse an inch in either direction, go for speed. If you don't mind moving your mouse several inches, get a precision one. Or find one in between ( I know some pads offer both)

I use a Razer Goliathus and love it, really nice and smooth with the G5.

![]() the sensor is surface friendly just don't use it on a SteelSeries Experience I-1/2 or a Icemat SE. if you are a high sensitivity gamer go with the glide a hard surface provides. if you are a low sensitivity gamer go with the traction a soft surface provides. how hard is that? |

Cheers lads.
Well I am more of a high sensitivity gamer, well I am compared to my friends anyway. I'm not the sort of player who throws my arm across the desk in FPSs, I'm more of a flick of the wrist = 180 degrees type player. Plus I wasn't sure whether glass surfaces work with laser mice, as ne of the steelseries I was looking at (think it was the SX) didn't have laser mice on their compatibility list. |
