Default G5 vs. MX518

Hi, I have been reading a lot of threads on these gaming mice and it seems to be a hot topic, but I want to know before I order the mouse which one is better and if certain features push one mouse over the other.

I don't want wireless, tired of changing batteries so it's ether the G5 or the MX518.

My main thing about the G5 is not having a forward button, and my thing about the MX518 is that is says "optical mouse" while the G5 is laser ... not sure about the differences, but is optical bad or something ?

I doubt you'll see a difference between laser and optical, but I can't speak for you. The only option that really differentiates the 2 is that the G5 has weights that you can put in/take out. That will allow you to put it at the weight that is most comfortable for you. With all that said, I tried all 3 mice at my local shop and ended up ordering the MX510 online to save a few bucks. If I were rebuying a mouse, I'd buy the MX510 again and use the extra few bucks on a new game or something. I just didn't feel the need to alter the standard weight of the G5, so the weights were wasteful for me.

As far as batteries and such.. that is why you get something like a mx1000, which is the awsome wireless laser mouse, has a built-in battery and lasts for a good couple weeks before recharge.

Too heavy IMO. My best friend has it and I HATE it. I'm forced to use it if we play games at his house and everytime I ***** and moan about it.

G5, tryed bouth mouses. G5 has very good materials, so its good for your hand. Fast dpi changing is very usefull to. The option with the weight is very good to if you use your computer alot. Dont save money on mouse and keyboard. You dont change those two things every year and you use them every time you turn on your PC. If you want a great gaming mouse search for microsoft explorer 3.0a, its just perfect for gaming.

im getting a lot of G5 answers here ... why does it go from 800 to 2000 DPI as that's a big jump, why is there no 1600 DPI or is it not a big deal ?

So if the G5 doesn't have a forward button and their's no difference noticable between optical and laser I should go with the MX518 ?

You can change quick dpi. Stock is 800-1600-2000.

There is a 1600.
The difference between optical and laser.
Laser=higher dpi, doesnt work when you lift it at all off the mousepad, does not work with certain mouse pads (its said that to get the best perf of a laser you have to use a white sheet of paper)
And optical is optical.
No real big difference in the real world.
I myself love my G5.
You should see which feels better to your hand and choose that rather than anything else.

the reason why i like the g5 is because of the mouse feet. i have a steelpad 4s and man, those g5 steelpads jsut blow the mx518 out of the water....smoooooth
