Pretty much a floppy is a floppy, I got a no name brand and it works great. It depends on the luck of the draw just like everything else, I have 2 of the same floppies and one is super quiet, while the other is like a jet engine.

Floppy Drive?
Nec, Mitsubishi, Panasonic so far

Floppies?
Only my old Sony and TDK MF-2HD have no broken/unreadable sectors. Memorex / Unbranded ones are not too good.
