Well i have the G7 Mouse, and all i can say is amazing, its so comterable and glides awsome with its "Polytetrafluoroethylene" feet and goes to 2000 DPi, which i dont use because its way to high for me ha, but if you want wires go for the MX 518 really good, the G5 is the MX518 with changable weights in them
SO: G7= for wireless Mx518= wired

http://www.overclock.net/computer-pe...w-mouse-2.html is a link to a post i did for another person with the same question that you have in regards to a new mouse. With the keyboard a similar approach can be used.
-how much do you want to spend. $50 aus can get you a decent multimedia keyboard and should last a while -what do you want to use it for? are you going to be playing online gaming? I would recommend the g15 as it has its own lcd and once customised is great for monitoring cpu load bandwidth usage etc. Do you want it to last you a long time? In which case spending a little amount on a cheap keyboard might yeild quick results but how long is it going to last? I would recommend the g5 mouse and g15 keyboard. They are not cheap but not overly ridiculously expensive. I have also heard positive feedback from razor mice as well as saitek keyboards. You ultimately need to find the best that you feel comfortable with and fits into your budget, which plays a big impact on decisions for peripherals. I keep telling people to go into a computer store and see if they have any peripherals on display that people can try to see if it will be suitable.

with the laser versus optical debate, some people feel that 2000dpi is excessive and they will quite happily settle for up to 1200-1400dpi. I myself like having my mouse set up at 1800dpi sometimes even using it at 2000dpi but would drop it down for more 'technical' situations. I have noticed that a laser mouse seems to be more responsive than an optical mouse but that could just be that I have a faster dpi set up in my g5 than in my old optical. If you are a general user I don't think you are going to notice much difference. If you lower the response time to get a more accurate feel than maybe a laser mouse isn't for you. That's not to say don't get one as they are pretty customisable but if you are looking for something that does the job and aren't looking at spending a fair amount than maybe just looking at a good optical mouse could save you quite a bit.
