Default How do you manage you power?

I recently did a serious overhaul of my power subsystem in my room, and I think it turned our rather awesome

I bought a CyberPower Backup Battery/Surge Suppressor which had 5 input plugs to the battery. This worked out perfectly; I have 2 rigs and 3 monitors running, which totaled to 5 male plugs, which got plugged into the battery subsystem. The surge suppressor also has 4 extra plugs which only connect to the surge supressor, and not to the battery. This means that in th event of a power outage, my pencil sharpener, sound system, keyboard, and clock will shut off. However, my systems and monitors will stay on for enough time for me to quickly save my work and safely shut down my computers.

I think it's quite amusing that the power supply is rated to hold a computer's power for 87 minutes in the event of a power outage, yet with all the hardware I'm running here the LCD display predicts a maximum output time of 2 minutes on battery power. XDD

On test runs, I shut down every running process on both my computers, waited until the backup battery was at full charge, and then unplugged the cord to the surge suppressor. The thing began a slow, quiet beeping tone (noticeable, but not deafening and distracting), and everything in my room shut off except for my computer systems. In 3 trial tests, it lasted a maximum of 7 minutes off of a full charge.

I'm quite happy with it

But all this sudden concern with surges and power outages has got me curious. What are you guys doing to protect your computers from these sort of events? Does anyone have multiple surge-suppressors connected to other surge suppressors?

The good thing about laptops is that your backup battery gives you two hours

I don't have a backup battery nor suppressor. I just have two simple surge protectors. I would like to get a backup battery considering I live in Texas and we have thunderstorms often....but I haven't thought about it too much really.

Nice setup you have there though.

Lyric, I'd definitely recommend one. I live in Fort Worth and we get power flickers all the time from all the damn storms. For my computer, I have an APC 1200VA/780W UPS with my computer, both monitors, my speakers, my modem, router, switch, and nas plugged into it...according to the powerchute software, with everything on (just listening to music at a reasonable volume) I'm consuming 343W and have an estimated runtime of 17 minutes on battery. For my TV and consoles and receiver I have another APC UPS, this one is 1250VA/750W. That one has a front lcd display so it probably shows how much time would be remaining on the battery, but it's behind my cabinet thingy so I can't even see it :/

oh and yeah for multiple surge suppressors, I have each UPS plugged into a belkin surgemaster suppressor...I doubt it'll do anything, but I'm hoping that in the off chance my house gets a surge or whatever only the suppressors blow and save the UPSes and all my stuff.
