Well right now we are having a good old English heat wave where foreigners are being forced to remove their coats, but for most of us locals we are about dead.
I have been looking for ways to cool my room down, already tried with multiple fans and even when them set right near the windows and doors they are just blasting hot air straight at me, really not at all pleasant. So it seems Air conditioning might be the way to go. However its still pretty expensive over here and the unit sizes are huge. The only ones that aren't are the evaporative coolers, however I know they don't work so well in humid conditions. Can anyone give first hand experience how they handle over here? If they are no good is there another option im missing, because even the cheap units are £90 but are so big I wouldn't be able to get them into the room. Even the really expensive ones aren't much better. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I miss sleeping.

How big is your place? What is the relative humidity on average? What kind of temps are we talking about?

The room it would be used in is pretty small, hence the reason a big one wont fit. Infact I wouldn't even be able to get it in, there is a fixed wardrobe that the door only just swings past.
The humidity I have no idea on in terms of figures, just that whenever we have a heat wave it also goes along with big red humidity warnings and people tend to refer to very dry countries when suggesting their use. As for the temps we are getting over 30C now. ****** Yeah that's a little more expensive than some of the others I have seen, cheapest was about £85-90 on offer. But very similar size which I can see myself struggling with. Would be nice if I could move it between multiple rooms as its main use will be in a bedroom but during the day it would be nice to let it follow me around a little. However if its at the size where I need to unscrew my door or get 2 people to lift it into my room in the first place I cant see it moving much.

If the room is under 37 SQ meters then you should be fine with the smallest A/C unit you can find. Which is generally 5000BTU's.

Yeah I must admit I don't have any idea on the actual room temp, its by far the worst in the house however, gets full afternoon sun, right over the boiler etc. But whatever its getting to its unbearable, the heat stays well up until 3-4am which has been giving me just a few hours sleep.
I also think I have a different view on the word portable than some of these companies do, some of the damn things are half a meter wide and weigh 40kg. ****** The room its intended for is tiny, actually cooling it with one shouldn't be an issue. Fitting one in is however. But for me it is getting to be a problem, during the day its not so bad. I can go outside, grab loads of cold drinks etc. But at night I just cant sleep and what I do get isn't great
