Default Swamp cooler and PC?

So I just moved back up to my college town and I realized that I took my parent's AC for granted. I want to get a portable A/C unit and I figured my best (read: cheapest and most effective) bet was to buy a swamp cooler. I know the mechanics of these things and I'm beginning to wonder the damages that it might cause to my tower and/or monitor. The HAF932 is pretty open and would be likely to pull in a lot of that moisture. It would give a whole new meaning to 'water cooled' . Anyone using one with a pretty 'open' tower? Are there better options for me, I'm trying to find something that can cool my room, and my room alone. I just need something small, that works and that's cheap that won't fry my comp.

What kind of price range? I would suggest a regular a/c unit, I have seen them go for as low as $65 on craigslist here locally, and several places sell them for right at $100(walmart has one, sears has a really nice one for $119) and they will do plenty. The swamp cooler's working or not for you is all dependant on where you are and what the relative humidity is at the time your using it.

Swamp coolers are great in sub 90° weather, but as soon as it gets hotter they are worthless. And I know how Boulder gets, you can go from 60° to 95° in a week. Pretty sure Newegg has free shipping on all A/C units for the summer. Might want to look into it.

I'm definitely looking around the $100 and below range. Strangely enough, as cheap as I am, I didn't check for used ones. Good call. I just need something that will stop me from sticking to my chair, that won't cause damage on my electricity bill and won't break the bank. The swamp cooler will certainly work for my region (Front range of Colorado), but I read a few "horror" stories about them ruining monitors and such.

I'll certainly check it out, thanks. That's the only problem about Colorado weather, consistency isn't its strong point.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ct_id=11860253 Energy star unit with remote.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ct_id=10998011 Cheaper $112

But if you go into walmart or even sears and look I know I have seen $99 and $109 new ones. I actually went with a Kenmore 6,000BTU Energy star and threw a warranty on it and with tax and everything it was around $140(I think it was $119 new) and it has a 5 year warranty on it now.

I'll drop by Wal-mart in the next week. The only problem (which I forgot to mention) is that I can't do window-mounted units. The windows in my room both utilize the crank-out style.

I think you are going to have to find a used portable a/c.

Yeah. I can't seem to find anything under $200 that doesn't use water/ice to cool the air. But honestly, if the thing was say... eight feet away from the computer... would it really be harmful?

I'm sure I could rig something up if there's a cheap floor unit that requires a vent.

$150 seems the cheapest you can find portable, they run up to about $275 or so.
