5770 is quite attractive, especially for multi monitors... Maybe I might invest in multiple monitors and get a 5770.
Since you do not need power in your laptop, get an older Core 2 Duo and integrated Intel graphics. I get much better battery life from Intel compared to ATI or Nvidia because Intel has such weak graphics. Mobile i5/i7 uses a lot more energy too.

Also the 5770 is only slightly more powerful than a 4870 but has better power consumption.

Off topic, but I've seen the name lelouche like everywhere. A few private game servers and forums lol.

On topic, I say keep the i7, just move it into your dorm or whatever. You'll miss that power after a little it .

Well in all fairness, if you're not even in university yet you shouldn't be buying $2500+ PCs...

A laptop through college is all you need, make sure you get something very portable, you WILL be lugging that thing around everywhere.

If you don't need a powerful laptop you could get an Ion netbook? Have a bit more welly to em and all the one's i have seen have a bigger screen than most netbooks.

For a main pc what about a micro ATX amd build?
