Living in California seems to be inherently dusty. When I lived in Seattle, the dust wasn't nearly as bad...yes, there was some, but not as much as down here. Up there I'd be able to go for months without dusting. Down here, things get dusty in a matter a couple of weeks.
A good air filter should help. Check out this site as it's got some excellent information. Be prepared for some sticker shock, though. http://www.air-purifier-power.com/to...purifiers.html

Dust builds up in carpets, rugs, and things of this nature, regular vacuuming is highly recommend to avoid a filthy mess of dust every where. Also, if possible, avoid carpets and rugs in general. Crack your window open for an hour or two every day, this will move the dust around, suck it out, push it out, etc.

err, how about not care about the quantity of dust? just regularly clean your computer, i clean mine every week usually on Sundays its just become a pattern for me, as my computer is in a very dusty part of the house and we just moved in so there's dust filled boxes every where it requires stupid amounts of cleaning

From what I've dealt with, cases sitting on the floor aquire the most dust. The airflow of your house ultimately brings dust to the floor. Carpets are dust magnets, while tile or other hard surfaces tend to clump the dust up against the walls because the dust sticks to itself instead. Clumps like this don't penetrate cases like the original particles can. The worst setup is a case on the floor in a carpeted room. Ideal is high off the floor in a hard surface room. Of course, there are many other factors to consider like the ceiling fan pushing dust in the direction of the case, fan filters, and whether your case has a negative pressure or positive pressure.
