Very nice job, dude. So, you only went up to 800? Try going even farther than that next time for the "mirror finish". 1000, 1500, maybe even 2000.

+rep. Awesome job and pictures.

at a certain point though, like everyone mentions, the lapping turns into pure mirrorlike-aesthetics, but nice job regardless.

+rep. Sweet work, nice temperatures and great pictures. I really should lap my TT120, you think it's worth it?

Of course. Even if you get minimally better results, the experience is always a plus!

What about lapping the CPU itself? Will that provide any further temperature drop or is it slightly pointless?

You'll notice another drop in temps, most likely around 2-3c or even more if the surface is concave like some older IHS.

Keep in mind lapping the CPU voids the warranty.

Theoretically it leads to better performance, and from reading most people's experiences they get better cooling results.

I know I myself have yet to work up the guts to do a CPU, lol. Might do it with a new $65 brisbane if I get one, but I'm worried to do it on one much more expensive.

That was just lapping the HS... I got a much larger drop by lapping the IHS on the CPU. Read about it here (pics and temp results).

Sure... depending on how bad the top of your CPU is you might wanna think about doing it as well. Check out the same thread I referred sammy to above (or just click here).

It is certainly NOT pointless. Check out the thread I'm talking about for the results.
