As DuckieHo mentioned, you're missing a couple key components. Here's a look at a freshly removed stock heatsink. You can see by the indentations in the thermal pad, which elements you should be cooling. I must say this a great idea though. Are all the chips the same height, or will you have to raise/lower some parts of the heatsink to properly contact all components?

thanks guys,
Some of the chips if I'm not mistaken are different heights. I'd have to look at to say for sure. I still have the original heatsink it came with so I'll take a look at that tonight when I get home. My Boss just called a few minutes ago while looking for the copper he had and said it's bent to much to use,so I'll have to buy some after the aluminum prototype is made and set.

I will have to watch this. I would definitely buy one of them after seeing it all cut and mounted. I've been looking for a replacement memory/VRM cooler(s) to use along with the VF900.

Edit: His is much more fancy than mine will be. Wish I had access to more tools. I will be able to bend and such if needed, but adding those cuts on tops I won't be able to do.

i hate to burst your bubble but... ask IandH how much it cost him to make them. i know just as well as he does that aluminum is about the cheapest way to go with heat sinks and even then, it costs $25-$30 each to make his heatsinks. i know because i discussed it with him in the early stages of his blocks. i also work at a machine shop and know first hand that copper is a lot harder to tool than aluminum is and costs quiet a bit more just for the material. if IandH made his sinks out of copper, they'd cost about $45-$55 to make. and this is in batches of 50-100. if you made less at one time the cost would be a lot higher. the best thing to do would be to invest your money into getting your own equipment and making your prototypes at home. of course there is a lot of engineering that goes behind it, but im pretty sure you are aware of that already.

I completely understand=) But luckily my boss works with metal in his spare time and also owns the land a metal shop rents and they have no problem giving me scrap copper or aluminum. Like I said, mine will be flat with no fins cut out of them,I simply do not have access to those tools. If people like them and I can manage to work something out. I'd be more than happy to sell them, but as it stands now I'm making only one for myself. As far as the math and such involved,my boss said he is more than happy to help. Which good because I can see it in my head, but I'll need his help to realize it. Basically I won't be milling out anything, maybe some polishing and such but thats about it.
