I was talking with my Boss,he said he has a ton of scrap aluminum laying around to make a heatsink for my 8800GT. My goal is to avoid that crappy thermal tape. According to my Boss he has a few different types of aluminums so I plan on making a heatsink out of each and testing temps threw both a temperature program and an actual temp gauge attached to the heatsink.

I will edit this post as we start the actual cutting and such for the heatsink. Here is a pic I messed with to give an idea of what I have in mind. Simple design and hopefully effective.

Interesting, how do you plan on cutting the aluminum?

Some points:
* You are missing two of the transistors in the bottom right corner.
* You don't need the bottom right most mounting hole.
* The right bottom two memory ICs, you should be able to use a straight connection between the two mounting holes.
* The shaders are in the G92 core... you mean VRM

quick update: My boss has found some extra Copper=) I now have measurements from my actual card and have started working on a cardboard cut out of the heatsink to may sure it all sets correctly.

I will be able to add fins to the heatsink and MAYBE an added fan or two. Also because of weight we will add a brace so the card does not start hanging down and adding pressure to the PCI-E slot.

Hmmm, this should be good if you go through with it, id include a fan, otherwise its just an over sized RAMsink

The fan would be a nice extra,but isn't needed. If I can get my sisters camera from her I will take a picture of the stock cooling that came with my XFX8800GT.....talk about cheap. Cast aluminum.....ewww dang thing cracked in half. Not while it was on the card=P

A large heatsink with fins has a lot of surface for the heat to dissipate. I'd have to fins some small NB fans(or alike) to mount to it.

You should still be able to edit the title... just go to edit the post, and look up in the title bar... it should be available for change.

Oh yeah, and good luck with the project! I saw on another forum someone who was doing a similar type of heatsink, and he had very good results. But he was using a CNC machine for the work, and made quite a few of them to sell to people... I tried to get one, but to no avail.

Tanks! Actually if all works out,I would like to make a few to sell. I'm not sure what the price should be,but they would 100% copper with a metal rod to attach to the heatsink for added support if desired. I may end up making another brace for my Big Typhoon being thats it's so heavy and I can see it bend the Mobo if not supported.
