Lightbulb Double Fan Mod? CFM/Noise Thoery?

I was just thinking about this now, most basic cases would have room for mabye sticking 2 fans together right?

I have never tired this but would doing this on say a exhaust or front fan help and would it be loud?

ps: building newbie here.

I've done it. Yes it blows more CFM, but it sure is louder than just the 2 running by themselves seperately. Not sure why?

P.S. You don't need glue, just go to the hardware and get 2" long bolts with nuts.

I only think that would work if you had about 6" between them, but the second fan would make sure the air didn't slow down and not 2x the CFM. I think two fans together would lower the CFM because the secound fan would just be in the way of the air.

how loud we talking here?

Im considering building a very very basic build with abit of overclocking (all decided already), Im also considering doing this to the exhaust with 2 120mm hyper fans (W15mm).

Just to boost airflow mabye

I think your pretty much right. The only way this would kinda work is if you spaced it appropriately.

But even then, I don't think the second fan would speed up the air more than a single fan.

All in all, go get yourself a decent single fan.

Seems like the turbulence created in between the two fans would cause them to run more inefficiently.

I don't know about that. You can definately feel the increase in air when you stack 2 together (vs. just 1). I don't know how efficient it is though. Let's just say each fan moved 30 CFM. You probably get 45ish CFM with them stacked though, not 60CFM like if they were seperate. The only reason I did it was because in my old case, I was really strapped for space/places to put fans.

100% agree though, 1 good fan is better than 2 crappy ones.

I actually am running the 6" apart like I described in my Antec 900 and all it does is keep the air speed from decreasing after that 6" from the original fan.

Edit: And two fans together has to be horribly noisy and would be more efficient to buy 100 CFM fans for ~$2 more.
