Default ghettofied heat recovery system

so i once heard in a vague description about a heat exchanging system that had a tilting resevoir between 2 vents when it was tilted to the exhaust of one it would absorb heat then when tilting back it to an intake vent it would release it. this is what i am making

ghettofied-heat-recovery-system-crap.jpg

EDIT: BTW these pipes smell like crap when cut them. must still be some gas in them

EDIT 2: http://www.espnw.com/QDT/recovery.html looks sort of what i'm talking about

Interesting concept and (IMO) you're the best person to try it out!

I just don't see how well it would work. How long would it take to heat up the water and then to cool it off? For example: Have the "apparatus" tilt towards the hot point and sit there for 10 seconds then tilt towards the cool side and sit for another 10 seconds? If you cut the time down to 5 seconds a side then you might not be transferring as much heat as before... and also while the apparatus is tilted towards the cool side, what would the hot side be doing? Maybe the temps at the hot point would be like riding on a roller coaster: 30C,25C,30C,25C. If there was any benefit it would be cool to see it in action... but I really doubt it would work that well... but I'm no rocket scientist so GO FOR IT!!!

EDIT to your edits: So I guess these "pipes" are kind of like the heat pipes you find on older vid cards and mobos? Then why the tilting action (besides the mashermasher ghettoness look)?

If I had all the parts and stuff I would definitely try it out... just for the heck of it! If it doesn't work then who cares... it would be fun trying it out anyways.
