Default Case fans ripped up!

i've four fans to cool my case but i found that three of them had their wires ripped up from their respective rotors....i tried soldering them in the right way but they dont work at all!.....my dad says there's a trick in soldering rotors to the red and black wires.......what's that trick related to soldering rotors???....and how should i do it------as my dad's already out of station!

Probly not the only one with this question but.. how the heck did that happen

Are you talking about directly at the rotor itself?

yeah i meant the red and black wire that comes out of the rotor and then to that connector(molex i suppose) which goes into the PSU(male/female).........the wires were loose when i brought those fans....i didn't take care of it then.....but i sensed the heat of my GPU spreading all over the case(my GPU fan got screwed up earlier)......

Hmm. Well, considering that you might have other issues which are helping to cause this.
First off, I'm confused as to what end of the wire is needing to be reconnected?
Secondly, do the wires look like they were melted off? What size are the fans?

Can you get a picture of the inside of your case? you might have a cooling issue which isn't helping if you are losing fans, including the GPU fan. Have you thought about getting a newer, more reliable PSU?

This type of soldering can be rather tricky as the method of soldering is to heat the work, not the solder....small solding heatsinks are highly recommended.

Using a "third arm" will also make the job much easier.
  • Use a soldering iron that has the sharpest point (you can sand/file one to a sharp point.
  • Identify the point to solder.
  • Attach (if possible and necessary) the soldering heatsink to any sensitive components. (in your case this may not be possible)
  • Use the third arm to hold the component and the lead in the desired position
  • Place the tip of the fully-heated soldering iron on the the point of the PCB
  • Place the solder to the bare wire leads.
  • The solder will melt and "slide" down the wire to meet the PCB
  • Quickly remove the soldering iron and let cool.
  • Test the solder point by gently tugging on the lead.

Trick: Heat the work, not the solder

...I should ammend that: you may want to touch the soldering iron to the wire, and the solder to the PCB...

sorry, just realised that you will probably not be able to use heatsinks, and this ammended technique will be safer. Actually... it is probably the better way to do all the time.
