As I said, I run out of Shin-etsu and end up using my AS5 for a month or two sometimes, Then I run into some shin, and swap out. AS5 was TOTALLY cured. Shin has no burn in time. Swap em out, and ALWAYS get at the very least 2-3c drop in temps. Those are the lowest results. Sometimes I can tell I did not apply the AS5 right, because when I swap to the Shin, I have gotten 7-10c drop sometimes.
So, in conclusion, I have switched from fully cured AS5 to Shin-Etsu about 10 times, give or take. All in all the temp difference in a GOOD application of cured AS5 to Shin-Etsu WILL yeild about a 2-3c drop on both load and idle temps.

Fill a bucket or small tub with several hundred tubs of AS5 and just dip the CPU into it ;-)

I've tried them both. While the Shin did perform a little better (1-2c difference), it's not major enough to warrant replacing your AS5 unless you're already doing a tear-down.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned or not but in addition to the 200 hours of actual operation time you also need to power your rig off to let it cool. Without the constant heating and cooling your AS5 will never fully cure and reduce your temperatures as much as it could.
***EDIT*** I guess ericoed stated this already.

I wouldn't say that AS5 "fails"...Shin Etsu is just a better product than it...More expensive too.

Arctic Silver 5 is nice for noobish builders because it is not as liquidy as Shin Etsu. I prefer the latter, but only teach my roommates how to use AS5.
