I'm gonna be getting a 780i FTW soon and was wondering if I'd be better with a Spotcool or a 60mm fan mounted on the NB? And if I would be better off with a 60mm, how thick can it be so a TRUE will still fit in there (facing out the back of the case)?

I don't really want something that loud, so the Spotcool on medium or maybe something like this ?

Thanks

Instead of tearing up your northbridge fan, you could look into this really cool PCI Rack. With it you could easily place a case fan there or a smaller, high RPM fan right over the northbridge.

Well there's two problems with that. One is that I have an Armor case, which has tool less PCI slots so I don't think that'd work on there. Two is that even if I could mount that, I think that it'd get in the way of a TRUE.

I don't mind if I have to take off the NB fan, I heard it's pretty loud anyway. I just want something there that'll help cool it better, won't be too loud, and still let my orient my TRUE out the back of the case.

Thanks though!

60x25mm is the most you can fit, and even that leaves like 1-2mm between it and the edge of the True.

It looks really nice though, I added a little chrome grill to it and it blends in with the rest of my things much better.

anyone try using the thermaltake extreme spirit ii to cool their nb?
looks like it is probably too big for most if you are cooling the cpu with air though. i'm going to be installing my watercooling setup that i've been sitting on for over two months and i'm considering using this to cool my nb.

I just got this fan. Robilar said it's good, and he can't hear it above the rest of his case fans.

If it does prove to be too loud for me, then I'll just replace it someday. As long as it's under 30dba like it says on Newegg I can live with it.

Doesn't work on 780i's.

LOL if it were that simple...
