I got sick and tired of these cheap mounting back plates that come with massive things like the TRUE120 which is 2 pounds of crazy, the retarded "screw your mobo" system with the D'Tek Fuzion... ARg
So heres what I did: bought me 16 guage (thickest I could find, would have gotten 1/8th inch from friend but was $$$) from Lowes, $14 for a 16x12 sheet which was 10 times more than what i needed Then Cut out a 3.5" square of steel using my Jigsaw... took one of the older mounting brackets and traced out my holes... Drilled em out and here is my result: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Some notes to check: I was very annoyed with whatever was around the CPU area... those little pins were touching the plate so I had to use two sets of washers to get enough space to be comfortable with using this When drilling holes, be careful to use a flat surface to avoid bending your backplate Thanks for lookin! Gimme some feedback ![]()

looks good, i like it. what i am sick of is how loose the true is. i hate that you can turn it. a good heatsink should be firm against the cpu. does yours do that?

you should put some thick padding on there so you dont need the spacers
peeny or spacer mod it

And that penny mod just ends up bending the backplate and adding not much more pressure... its not effective enough to warrant bending your motherboard to get that extra edge

yeah, it really pissed me off. it cost over fifty, it should have better mounting. do you think you will do any kind of mod for mounting it down on top of the mobo? if you do could you take a picture work log? because i would probably being trying to do something soon, i hate that it is so easy to turn. you probably could get more performance out of it if it was mounted better.

Well that top part for the TRUE120 would be a hard thing to make in a single piece
My only improvement on it would be to dump the pressed/ formed Aluminum and switched to hardened and pressed Steel or milled steel brackets. If someone does have a good design for it, I have several million-dollar CNC Mill units at my friends workplace that are accurate to 40 billionths of an inch (Lincon Lasers Precision machining) As well as an army of saws and other types of milling tools

I have a simple idea
I could just take two strips of steel (like 4" x 1") and put three holes, ends and center Use the center holes to join the two in a similar way that the current bracket does, then the end holes mount to the board... but since the steel is so strong, it wont flex like the crappy mounting does now... then use the backplate I made on the flip side Bolt them together and I think we have a winner! I have lots of left over steel if you want to buy mine - its 16"x14" minus a 4x4" cutout and a hole in the center (used the extra steel as a pad to drill on)

that sounds good, but is a dremel strong enough to drill in steel?

Not a chance in Hell.
My 15 amp AC powered Drill struggled with a specialty drill bit I had to buy because those normal bits you usually get.... One snapped from too much pressure, the other just went flat. You defanately need a powerful drill. I suggest renting one to do this, or find a store that you can buy from that takes cutting requests
