Default Bong on a budget!!!

You want to try a bong cooler but don't want to pay
for it?

PARTS

1 shower head or *shower head mod.
10-12 2 Ltr bottles
1' of 4" dryer duct or just use a 2 Ltr.
1 fan
12' of tubing
1 5gallon bucket or large rubbermade container
10 ping pong balls new or used (optional)
1 roll duct tape (optional)
plumbers tape
zip ties
screw eye

Take the 2 Ltrs and cut the tops and bottoms off
all but one...the last one leave the top on.

Drill a hole in the top of the res to screw in the
2 Ltr top.

Cut a large hole in one of the 2 ltrs and connect
the dryer duct. use duct tape!

Install the fan in the end of the duct. use zip
ties.

Duct tape all the 2 ltrs together

Cut holes in your res somewhere so your tubes can get out. Make sure you do it above water lvl so you don't have to worry about leaks.

Hook up your shower head to your tube and hang it
down the top of your bong. I used a screw eye to hang the shower head.

Drop in the ping pong balls, plug in your fan and turn on your pump!

*SHOWER HEAD MOD

Take a 12oz water bottle and mod a barb in the cap
poke holes with a hot needle into the bottom of the
bottle...you need about 50 holes. the smaller the
better so take your time.

Don't forget that you might have condensation and
should always insulate your mobo if your gonna cool
your water!

FYI
you can do this without any duct tape...I've been
testing my bong for a week or so now and have no
problems. Makes a nice sound though!

Here come the pics!!! bear with me its my full WC build not just my bong

My home made water block...(still looking for copper base of some kind pm if you have any spare copper don't make fun of my aluminum!

pump head test and res test with tubing

This is my fill indicator res. (So i can see when I need to refill my res.)

bong with no fan...first day trial. bad pic sorry...

Shower head

res with fan and balls, my external PSU mod

finished bong!

The upgrade
Tossed the budget out the window and went industrial

Haha I was wondering what you were gonna say to use instead of the pvc pipe and that is pretty ingenious. If i ever decide to make a real huge bong cooler, i may use 2 liters. The shower head mod is a really good idea. I bought a shower head for around $20 for mine but that is a great way to save money. I don't really get what you are using the ping pong balls for. From everythig I hvae read the ping pong balls are used to create more surface area while the water is falling down the tube. TO me this means they are only effective if the entire tube is filled with them. I was planning on doing this in a month or two when I rebuild, and improve, my bong cooler. I was goign to try and get a rough estimate of how many I needed but I was expecting to have to buy 100+ and I only have around 4.5 feet of 4"ID pvc.

Now I want to try making a 20 or 30 foot one since it can be made so cheaply. I could just have it mounted on the ground outside and have it go to my window on the third floor. I guess it would be hard to get a pump capable of supporting that but that could probably get the thing pretty cool in the winter. rep+ for a great way to save money on a great cooling method.

ok well the amount of balls = the amount of surface area you want...the more the better. However I would think that with a bit of super glue you could make a diorama of ping pong balls and hang them down so they are above the tube...I still haven't played with the balls much yet. I have used 3 whiffle balls just for fun. I have been told that you might get too many balls causing ether poor air flow (I doubt) or too low of temps (who ever heard of that krap?) I guess if you don't plan on insulating your mobo then you would have to worry about too many balls.

as far as making a bong 20'+ you could always make a double perk. however this uses a larger res and 2 pumps...2 heads etc etc. ive thought about doing this myself already but the huge spare pump I have may be too large and strong...Ira warned me that it might blow off the shower head or the barbs/hose connection...I have yet to play with the large pump. *scared lol

I have no clue all the things that would make this better...I would think some insulation on the hose and res would help some...maby 1-2c depending on your ambient. also I have a sub pump and taking that out of the res would help but I don't have this option. everything I do has to be based on as budget as possible. thats what The Ghetto Builders Club is all about!

I can make this into a build log with pics if anyone would like. I would also like pointers and help from your bong pros!

Yeah if you are doing this might as well make it a build log or at least take some pics along the way and post em when youre done. I had 2 weak pumps on mine for a while but when I bought a better pump I definitely noticed a difference. A larger fan also helped. When I changed the 120x25 for a 120x38 there was a huge drop in temps, but it also made it so I had to refill the tank four times as frequently. I guess you're right about having too many ping pong balls and airflow. I might try to run a couple tests to see if having a lot makes a big difference. I can't wait to see how this thing looks and works. Subscribed.

Mine is here. His will probably look a little more homemade. NOL's bong guide should be around here somewhere too. It explains the theory a little more.

EDIT: found NOL's guide here.

It is a great way to cool a massive system but it has to be planned well otherwise the maintenance is a pain. I think the most important thing I learned from building mine is that a lot of little things can make a big difference in maintenance time. Oh and algae is a terrible thing, I learned that too.

I would suggest making an easy fill port, putting a filter before the pump, and buying some algae killer from walmart or a petshop. And make sure you seal everything properly and use hose clamps. While it was fun to see the little DB-1 shooting a stream of water all over the floor next to my rig and desk, I would suggest avoiding instances like that.
