Default WARNING to bong users

i'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade about evaporative coolers here i just want to give some warning as a precaution.

i highly suggest adding some sort of biocide to your water on a regular basis due to legionaires. now some of you might not have to because your water company adds chemicals into the water already but remember those chemicals get blown out in the evaporative cycle over time. so if the area around your bong cooler starts to smell suspicious, literally, i would highly suggest you flush the water out and ventilate.

btw we use huge two story tall cooling towers for our chillers at work and we have to use biocides or legionella outbreak is a very big possibility. it only takes a month or so depending on conditions for those little buggers to really start massing up.

if anyone wants to read up on it here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legionella

I use humidifier biocide in mine. Cheap, effective and designed to be safe atomized in the air. For the record I've never come across a reference to a bong cooler harboring this or any other disease though I am sure it is very possible. I am not sure but think DirtyDuck uses silver in his loop.
As far as I know we are the only guys on here who run bongs at the moment

yeah I just have silver in my res. Seems to keep the majority of the nastys out...However I do try to break down and clean out my bong every couple months...I think I'm about due for another cleaning.

There is some kind of dust/funk build up where the sprites fall out of the top of the bong....its all around on the top of my res and on the sanitary T part of my bong...there is also some kind of funk build up inside the top of my bong tube, I am guessing it is mostly dust and smoke build up.
I might start putting in some additives if I can find a cheep safe one to breath.

Thanks for the heads up man...but yeah we have spent tons of time discussing how to keep the nastys out of our bongs. Nub and I are the only ones that run bongs here on OCN as far as I know. although I think one other guy was in the process of building one.

One other thing is...I have been told over and over again that the water treatment plant here in my town is one of the very best in the world. I guess they win some kind of awards every year or something...so I kinda doubt I have much to worry about.
