Couldn't find anything via search...if this has already been asked please kindly point me in the right direction. Thanks!
__________________I'm going to dramatically simplify my question in order to avoid confusion or comments about other aspects of my experiment: Pretend that I have a bigass reservoir. If I were to take my old radiator, totally unplugged and naked and plopped it into the reservoir so that it sits submerged in the coolant for many months or even a year or two (we'll pretend that it's for decoration), would this cause any corrosion/chemical problems in my loop? In other words, I know that the coolant is safe to run through the inside rad, but can it run over the outside of the rad without causing some unforeseen (by me) chemical problems?

A rad is designed to run with air through it. If you get one that is built for a car, I do not see why not, but what is the reason?

The coolant may eat off the paint? (if any) Something to research anyway.

What is going to get the heat out of the liquid once you submerge a hot radiator into it? The purpose is for moving air to remove the heat from the radiator's cooling fins. Putting a hot radiator into a tub of water will just give you a tub of hot water and a hot CPU.

I don't see the point unless it's chilled water or similar. CL3P20 did some runs with his rad dunked in a tub of dry ice. I have also seen people put their rads inside a tub of ice water. It's not for long term use, but it's good for benching.

Ya, that's called a slush box, but it's only good for as long as you can keep ice in the tub.

Room temperature water won't cool that radiator very much or for very long. It would probably be worse than just taking the fans off of your radiator. At least heat will rise in air and be dispersed. In water, the heat just stays even longer with nowhere to go.

Haha, I like how all of the replies have this kind of "*** is this moron thinking" kind of confused feeling.
__________________![]() Its more of a hypothetical question because I'm curious if there are any possible contamination problems I may be overlooking...I know that the purity of the coolant in a WC loop can be a delicate balance sometimes. Thanks for the replies, anyone else foresee any contamination problems?
