THESE ARE NOT FAKE....
I finally got some time to try lapping a cpu, and cooler. I was going to do some video, and make a tutorial of how "I" was doing it. However I figured I would just show off the results of my AMD Athlon X2 5400. This took me about 6 hours total. ![]() The surface was even smoother than most the videos I saw, and some of the pictures here too. I spent alot of time with the 1200grit, and my secret polishing formula! ![]() I see your lack of faith and your skepticism. So here are more photos also with the cooler. I noticed some of you talking about it looks fake, I might be using a mirror, or photoshop. Well actually yes I did use Photoshop to blur the background of one image and that was all. These are not touched, and it's pretty obvious to me (maybe not some of you) that the importance is one the flat surface which creates more surface area to dissipate the heat away from the cpu. God help me if, after uploading more pics, people will still say these are "fake" I AM WATCHING YOU ![]()

You know that a mirror finish isn't exactly the best thing? It's more about how flat and perfect the surface is compared to making it a perfect mirror finish.

Yup, the polish can leave a residue which will affect your temps.

putting a small mirror ontop of your cpu does not mean it's lapped.

You mean some kind of stuff you wax it with or something? I don't see how that would be happening here. If Im wrong, please educate me.

and... "Goof Off" is a xylene-based cleaner that will clean, and leave no residue. Goo-Gone is a BIG NO NO.

Now If you could get the cooler exactly the same and both were perfactly mated surfaces you could leave out the grease.

Jeweller's Rouge is a compound used for polishing metals to a shiny finish, however, when jewellers use it, they usually remove the excess via cleaning in an ultrasonic bath. Without the cleaning, I'm sure it could interfere with the thermal transfer in this case.
