Default CPU Lapping Help

Soo.. i've been tyring to lap my new i7, for all the good reasons of lapping..

as its my first go.. (i've actually practised on an old P4).. ive got a couple of questions for the gurus out there.. as well as some pics of my lap.. if you could tell me whether the lap is satisfiable or not..

-i've tried the water and glass test.. water seems to spread out evenly..
-the graph paper test looks pretty decent (except from the very edges)
-the razor blade test.. doesnt look THAT good (if am doing it right)

1)do you apply any pressure when sanding? or just use the cpu's/hsf weight do the job?

2) do you wet/dry sand?

3) does it matter whether the very edges of the processor are 'bent'.. i.e instead of beeing dead flat [ | ] have a bit of curve [ ( ]..

i've attached pics of my lap below (excuse my sh***y pics, not good in photography).. thanks in advance for any help and excuse my bad english

DO NOT ADD PRESSURE!!!!!

Let the weight of the proc do all the work. Its takes longer, but adding pressure can cause uneven lapping.

The edges arent important as the middle.

Wet is better.

What cooling setup do you have? You should fill out your system info.

Wet lapping means very little water( 2 drops). Too much water = too much work. Also, stick with low grit like 220 to get it pretty flat. As you probably know, lapping isn't about shine so you really don't need to sand it 800 grit +.

Start off with 400,600,800,1000,1200,1500,2000,2500 Grit papers like i copied down below, Add a few drops to your Sandpaper /w glass and spend around 10 minutes per grit, eventually you will get a flat/mirror finish using the 2500 grit Heres a link for awesome lapping kits

am not really looking for a mirror finish.. but more of a flat surface..

i mean.. if my pics above show a flat surface.. i have no problem whatsoever of just popping it back to my mobo and cotninue..

if you guys think tho it needs more lapping.. (i.e flattening it down, until the corners are flat with the whole cpu).. then i shud get started again (using the sequence you showed above, although thats what i used without the 2500 and 1200)

Sometimes I use an ink pad. I press the surface to be lapped into the pad to get full-coverage, then draw the surface across the sandpaper once while being very careful to have the surface level.

This provides an initial indicator as to where high/low spots are.

I would like to know what temp drops one would get by lapping. I currently watercool and would like to know what would happen if I lapped both my D-Tek Fuzion, and CPU! Would I benefit?
