Ive seen a few slush boxes but not many. Is there a reason for this? are they very effective or just a waste of time.

Well that all depends...your getting a 940 in a week...I would look around for a well used cheap MB and PSU to slap that X2 in and put that on a slush box to see how high you can go with it. If it works good and you think you need to slush the 940 then you will already know whats up and wont kill your chip.
One thing to keep in mind is that you will NEED to insulate everything to keep the condensation out of your rig. If you get a 2nd setup then you can practice and it wont matter much what happens. (try a bong out first, You don't need insulation with them but you will have the option to turn it into a slush box at any time.) The link is in my sig to all you need to know about bongs...if you need any help we (the bong lovers) will guide you through it. We love to see more people getting into experimental cooling. Also feel free to PM me or IM me for questions or what not.

If you can make your own there great. The main component is a 5000BTU window AC that you can get for a $100 or so, then your other odds and ends. You have to insulate and condensation proof your gear but thats no big deal. The nice thing with a chiller is you can cool your chip,GPU's and mobo with just the one chiller.
This guy did a real nice job on his...Ok, I'm Chilled. I'm Chilled. Relax....56K Warning! - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

I could get down a little below ambient for a while flipping my rad in a bucket, yeah its worth it since its only costs a bucket full of ice. I did have my mobo already condensation proofed so I didn't have to worry about that.It was something to play with. CL made one with dry ice and acetone and was getting pretty good temps with it, that would get you a lot colder. The rad on this rig was the one I used for that. It has a quick dis-comnnect and then my fans were on studs so I could pull them off real fast. That's why I made the tubing long on the rad and curved back like that, made it easier to get into a bucket.

There nice and easy to make, I've had a 5000BTU broken down for a couple of years now that I've never gotten around to finishing. I'd still like to sometime but I bought a SS phase unit that I'm running now.

the only part that looks hard is insulating everything. That and i would have to buy nb/sb waterblock which i just cant afford at the moment. But maybe soon

Mobo proofing is really pretty easy, I like using Conformal and neoprene and di-electric. A lot of guys like kneadable eraser better, I've tried it but I just don't like it much. Look in the TEC stickies for a good proofing guide and in the DICE/Ln2 forum for a good eraser type proofing guide.
You need to cover your tubing, cheap split foam pipe wrap works well for that. Hey it's something to think about, maybe you can do it when you have a little more money. You don't have to chill anything except the chip if thats the only block you have, then add the rest as you go along. If your just wanting to do a little benching you can get an OK DICE/Ln2 pot for $100 or so and just bench on that every now and then. Thats what I do, I'll run TEC or phase 24/7 and then use DICE to bench with. I wish I could get Ln2 here easily but its a long drive from here to get any.
