Ok so does anyone notice the rather large gap between the fan blades and the housing?? Is there a reason for this? i was considering running electrical tape around the inside of the housing to get a tight tollerence on the blades wouldnt this theoretically improve fan performance or is this just stupid??

I guess I am missing what you mean here...
Here's some food for thought: - If you have high quality/ high performance fans, then they should be performing w/in spec. Any mod you'd do would barely increase performance, and may even backfire on you. - Tape sucks... I hate using tape of any kind inside my rig... -bottom line, if you are using high quality fans, then don't try to mod them. The only "mod" I do is using rubber/silicon mounts to reduce vibration and noise. If I am off base or misunderstood what you meant, then please let me know.

![]() See that gap. In my head i think that having closer tollerences would make the fan perform better and im bored lol so i figured id get some opinions.

I think it would do nothing noticable, but I'm not one to bash something I've never tried.

It might help sightly not enough to benefit from all the work you did. I think a shroud would be better idea if its going on a heatsink.

Anyone have an idea of how i can test the performance difference?? lol i could put a peice of paper down and see how far it bends backwards before and after haha.
The main reason for my idea is i have a pretty powerfull fan on my BONG cooler and it gets lots of backpressure so it kinda feels like air pushes back around the edges and i want to give it some more umph ya know.

my hypothises is:
its not going to be much of a cfm increase but more of a static pressure. the fans on my rad feel like it blows back at the edges of the blades. possibly air escaping through that gap.

It sounds like a reasonable idea to me. And yes, that should improve pressure more than cfm, so if it works, you're in business. I'd give it a shot.
