Lightbulb Old Heat Pipes/New P5Q3 MB I'm at it again!

So this is my brother's P5Q3 he just ordered. He brought it over and as soon as I looked at it, I new I had the perfect parts just laying around to modify and totally upgrade his motherboard, including an old stock heat pipe for the south bride and upper mosfets left over from a Striker Extreme 650i as well as an ASUS mosfet fan and a small NB fan. The results from this mod really surprised me.

Here are a few pictures:
  • P5Q3 Stock
  • P5Q3 SB Removed
  • New SB/Mosfet Cooler Installed
  • Fans & Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler Installed

____________________________________________
This is the board I got the SB heat pipe from. P5N32-E SLI Plus/Striker Extreme
Check out the thread on how I got the above motherboard to that point.

Also check out THIS THREAD to see how I used the NB heat pipe off of that board and modified it to fit onto a P5N7A-VM motherboard.

And of course, I couldn't just let my old P5N32-E SLI Plus just sit around without complete cooling, so I used the stock NB cooler off of the P5N7A-VM and with some Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive, I mounted it to the top of the already modified NB.

Check out the pictures here:
  • Here is a close up of the heat sink stuck on.
  • And from the other side.
  • I think this actually looks completely stock as is, yet it's still an upgrade.

Back to the P5Q3. After giving him my old Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, I went after the BIOS. I'm going to email him for more stats and will post them soon so I know I'm accurate. He did say his MB temps went down over 10C. I'll get the exact numbers from him soon. I'm not as familiar with intel's labeling of MB parts as I am with Nvidia, but I'm assuming "MB" means the north bridge on this MB.

Here's all the stats I can remember:
E8400 @ 3.825GHz(3825MHz)
FSB = 425MHz(1700MHz X 9)
MB = 31C Down from(Coming later today! I think he said 45C)
CPU = 38C/Idle to 51C/Maximum Load
And the most impressive thing. . . All stock or "auto" voltages!

Thanks! Glad to hear it! You could post a thread for used ASUS heat pipes here and likely do well. I think pretty much anything nForce 6-700 should be compatible and ASUS MBs in particular would line up really well to upgrade your MB.

If you do something, post a link to your thread here so I see it please! Good luck!
