As a bit of advice to anyone thinking of doing this project:
__________________Most consumer networking equipment "fails" (crashes/reboots/drops packets, etc) not because of temperature, but because consumer-grade switches, routers, and modems don't have anywhere near the amount of memory needed to handle heavy loads of hundreds or thousands of connections (for example - bittorrent). Still, if your modem or router or switch is crapping out and it's due to temp issues - then active cooling is a good idea

I had that modem, it runs perfect even in my un-airconditioned attic without any special cooling. Bring it back and get a new one.
That's a creative but silly solution... it's defective, replace it.

Just do what I did, get some old cell phone charger and hook it up to a fan. Take the cover off of the router and have the fan blow across it!

What's the point? It's not like it'll make your connection faster even if it was possible...

Overclocking your computer has a point. Overclocking your modem doesn't.
