Default The actively cooled... Cable modem

lol, yes thats right... I was having problems with my modem, it would shut down several times a day. always when in heavy use. It happens to be in the 2nd hottest room of my house, rising to over 80 at the height of the day. i took some temps from my modem and on REALLY bad days it was running at 90c+. i was a bit scared. so i whipped up this little contraption.
Ingredients:
One cable modem
One 80mm case fan. (mine has blue LED's
One old 120vac to 5vdc converter. ((mines from an old cordless phone. anything 5v to 12v will work) its the big block thing that plugs into the wall and gets in the way... you know those right?)
Tape
Alligator clips (or if u wanna solder go for it)

Instructions
self explanatory...
check out the pic...

My router could really use this. I suspect that heat may be the reason it croaks over after quite a bit of data transfer. I've been meaning to replace this junky DIR-615 anyway.

I've been considering doing this on my D-link DSL modem/router combination, but my dad won't let me

Seriously, these things run HOT!

My cable modem uses 4 watts at idle standby running up to maybe 6 watts full load. Why does it need active cooling?

place your finger on the chip while your blasting your modem with data and you tell me why it needs active cooling
