Default Non conductive heat transfer paste/plate?

Hi all,

Looking to mount a modded Petium 2 cooling unit onto th back of my graphics card "for teh lulz" and need suggestions as to some way of transfering heat from the back of the card to the heatsync without shortcurcuiting the card, so I'm thikig of some type of on conductive material to put between, any sugestions?

Note:
-Must be non-condictive
-Must be reasonably easy to accquire

Just about any Thermal Paste will work. Most people will say that you shouldn't use AS5 because it's conductive, but they're wrong. It's only slightly capacitive.

I'd use OCZ Freeze, or MX-2, though.

I don't wana take ay chances, I can't afford to kill the card, I was thikig a thi peice of porcelain or some such just to break contact between the metal of the heatsink and the curcuitry, thats holds alot of heat, any thought?

Uh... I wouldn't do that, ever.

You cannot kill the card with thermal paste. Lots of people replace the TIM on their GPUs to great effect.

If you don't want to take any chances, then you should be doing this.

It looks like he doesn't mean on the GPU itself but the back of the card.... a good idea I think

Try getting some of the thermal tape they use on GPUs and RAM or if you can scavenge it I found this neat rubber crap under the..... I forgot the name of the component.... the voltage regulator or power mosfets? (by the CPU near I/O ports) anyway went to replace it with AS5 and noticed I'd short crap out if I put that heatsink back on so I left the rubber thermal tape..... but it can stretch and it make the surface nice for putting a HS on...... all those tiny resistors..... I may try this myself

If you can't afford to replace a piece of hardware, do not mod said piece of hardware.

First rule of overclock.net.

Also- Porcelin and ceramic are excellent heat insulators, so I would stay far away from that. use some thermal tape or paste, and zip ties to hold your heatsink down.
