Wink Captive O-Ring G 1/4 Barbs: Pre-Orders and Announcement

Iandh has decided to make CyberDruidPC the sole outlet for a new style of barb he designed and manufactures from brass stock on a CNC milling machine. These barbs represent a new era in O-ring barb technology. The Captive O-ring ensures a tight leak-proof seal against radiators, waterblocks and reservoirs. Unlike the typical O-ring barbs mass-marketted today, these parts are made right here in the States by one of our own OverClock.Net Members: Iandh.

Typical O-ring barbs like these:

Have a narrow flange that is also the nut--overtighten this fitting and the O-ring deforms and you have a potential leak--too loose and they can become undone when moving a tube around. There is no positive friction fit with these style of barbs. the best you can done is get them hand tight and then gingerly tighten a quarter turn more.

This is Iandh's barb design. The O-ring is captive and cannot pop out when tightening--this means you can crank this barb down as tight as possible without fear of the O-ring deforming and creating a leak--these barbs will form a tight friction fit when hand tightened: there is no need for a nutted surface to wrench on.

The picture above is from Iandh's thread about his new waterblock. I saw the barbs and immediately PMed him begging him to make some for me.

I am adding these to the store. They will list at $8 each with a quantity discount of $7 each for purchases of 6 or more. This is a first production run so costs are high: but so is my opnion of these barbs.

Please take a look at Iandh's work: http://www.overclock.net/2812414-post80.html and you can see these are basically metal art.

The barbs are extremely high flow too due to the precision machine thin wall.

This first production run of 80 pieces is already 1/3 sold so if you want a pair or six of these Iandh Barbs PM me to place your pre-order.

Thanks

Nice... what's the ID of the barbs themselves? Is it possible to get a few with an increased OD for 1/2" tubing (like 9/16")?

Let me talk with Ian and see what can be done. I am not sure how mill set up works--it might be no big deal to make differnt ODs on the shaft.

I just PM'd him telling him he absolutely MUST get a patent app going on that design. Something that simple and obvious is revolutionary and he can't let that slip by.

I am amazed at some of the talent out here...but then that is just more proof about the industry and its growth, the focus of that article I was in years ago. Fabulous work guys!

The latest news is the buyers (that pre-ordered) think doing a shorter shafter with a single barb would be ideal. So that's what Ian will make I reckon.

It's a nice piece of work.

If anyone would like to pre-order these barbs PM me. Between what I will use personally (for my many LC components) and what has been prepaid in preorders half the initial run is already sold.

I agree...Get that patented..Not only will this be good for H2O cooling, but it will probably make its way into the plumbing market as well I would imagine. I'm surprised there isn't something like this already.

Iandh, Well done.

D-Tek offers a barb with a larger flange and a groove in the flange--but nothing like what Ian has milled.

If you can confirm this I will draw them up with the single barb and 1/4" shorter, I need to know since the print is due to the machine shop by thursday for programming. My only personal preference is that I make whatever everyone will be most happy with.
