Nah I just screwed up some more acrylic. The lamination FAILed. I need to do something different.

I stay in in touch with Niko Time. He's got a Golden Parachute

I have to admit I rarely FAIL at what I set out to do but the lamination requires some equipment I do not have at my disposal. But one of my traits is persistence. I will persevere in the face of adversity and throw more time and money at this undertaking until I get it to happen to my satisfaction.

The bottom line is if I don't absolutely love it and want to own it I can't see passing it along, right?

Default All it Takes is Time and Money

w/e

I am having TAP Plastic fabricate two panels from 1/2" Black acrylic. They will ship this coming Thursday. The edges will be chamfered and polished and the Fan Holes will get the same treatment but I will have to polish those as TAP does not have the equipment. The Panels will be mounted to the case and that will be that.

I'll be fabricating the top panel and cutting out the hole in the existing metal panel tomorrow. I only have one piece of acrylic set aside for this operation so I am hoping to make it happen without incident. The plan is to test fit the motherboard Niko Time sent me and take a measurement to the center of the socket and then transfer that to the top and make a square cut out a bit larger than the fan in the steel panel. I'll Route an oversized hole in the black acrylic panel and glue in a square piece of UV Blue from the underside. This will then be routed to the diameter of the fan. I'll use nice button headfasteners to attach the Fan/Filter assembly. The square piece of UV Blue acrylic will socket into thesquare cutout in the steel panel. I will then attach the top with flangehead black torx drive screws. When you look at the PC you will see a brushed aluminum face and gloss black acrylic with some subtle details that I think will make this case look just right.

More Tomorrow.

.... .... it happens to the best of them.

Kudos for not beating your head against the wall in an utter act of futility, and trying the same thing repeatedly whilst expecting different resuts - the raw definition of insanity.

Note to acrylic modders: Capillary bonding only works "cleanly" up to 1/2", maybe 3/4" if one can make the application from both sides. It can be done up to 2" (maybe 3" if one doesn't mind air bubbles) if one uses sewing pins (with the heads cut off) to create a gap between the surfaces to be bonded.... but that really isn't capillary bonding.

Fortune favors the bold Mr. Druid, and in my book you are one of the boldest.... erm... bolders (not boulder ) that I am aware of... I know that you will succeed.

...or I shall prepare myself for the Rapture (not a Bioshock reference...).

lol

IF I had my shop together I could have saved myself at least $80 on the side panels. But without the right equipment it is hard to do nice work. I'd rather pay them than screw up $60 of acrylic trying...
