Niko Time commissioned a scratchbuilt HTPC style case from me and gave me a blank slate to work from. His only requirements being that it be HTPC form factor and that it not have a bunch of lights or LED fans all over it. He stressed that he wanted a stylish and classy looking case.

After considerable thought I came up with a way to arrange the hardware in a small footprint and still have good cooling and ease of access.

To be honest the budget for this build does not provide for much labor or fancy parts. But I will still be able to provide a nice custom enclosure...it just won't be elaborate.

After a couple of mock ups with inexpensixe 1/8" acrylic I decided that acrylic strong enough to hold up to shipping would be too heavy to use for the interior and chassis. Afterall part f the factoor here is meeting a budget. Shipping is going to be a big part of that.

So I searched and found a very nice HTPC with the layout I was looking for: this case has room for full sized components and so on and provisions for 120mm fans on either side to get a good crossflow going.

I will clad the sides of the case in some killer custom acrylic slabs and do a few other things to bring the case to the next level.

Sounds like some awesome plans, I want to see more already!

Aren't there any acrylic motherboard trays available? I'm planning an acrylic case (clear rather than the retro style your going for ) and I think the motherboard tray might stick out a bit much...
