Amazing stuff CyberDruid, I think you just went from amateur to pro after completing the last few artistic builds.

thanks big Guy...now stop squishing my head.

I totally went OFF on the case today and I am headd back out to get a little further. I came up with a novl way to sandwich the /4" thick acrylic panels between a pair of different sized Angles and it's SWEET. Lots of drilling and tapping. Everything gets Torx drive button head screws.

Got 4 of the 6 sides complete and have cut out for the fan. Now I need to cut about 3 more miters and a couple of pieces of acrylic to finish the cube.

That's a pretty slick setup, capped off with an absurd and ridiculous fan.

It's going to be a quality project!

Default Kooler Box the V.S.O.P edition

1/3 of the way through the month...holy cow.

How's everybody's weekend going?

I'm actually going to take a Sunday off (first one in months). My body is beat up..burns, cuts, bruises, aching muscles...who'd a thunk modding PCs was such rugged work

I did not take shots of the drilling and tapping and box assembly...I was too involved getting all the parts just right. But I did take some shots of the fan and reservoir install

Here ya go.

Cheers! Best Eggnog on the planet right here buddy.

Jigsawed the hole and then cleaned up the edge on the spindle sander

Eased the edge with a 1/8 RO router bit

Polished the edge on the Drillpress

Transparent again

Big enough fan lol. It's onthere with torx drive buttonheand screws and acorn nuts. Acorn nuts are teh Sechs.

Drilled and tapped the case to receive the res and used Torx drive buttonheads to secure it with nylon washers to revent damage to the res bracket.

Getting there.

The final two panels will be mounted to these miitered frames and then drilled and tapped to the case.

You'd be surprised how challenging it is to get angles to miter together perfectly...After a long day I decided to call it quits before ruining any work.

The rad and pump unit will mount to the base of the case with isolators and brackets. Then I will be lining th panels with Sonex. The overall effect will be a slightl less annoying rad box lol. The Sonex will need to attach tot eh acrylic...but to kep it pretty I will onlty adhere it where the aluminum angle hide the adhesive: so all you will see is brilliant white trapped under acrylic.

At the last minut I changed the fan orientation to push air through the rads. This is easily changed...but the flang for the fan was obvioulsy designed to mount the prop side to a panel.

I'll be putting some feet on the case to help with vibration.

I need to speak with Antesignani and see how much wiggle room we have in the budget. As usual I tend to upgrade my builds well beyond my initial quotes...He was okay with the hardlines (good man) so now I need to see if he wants to add any switches/rhesostat/valves etc.

I want to accomodate him in that regard...

Depending on how he intends to pu the kooler to work valves and meters and switches might be a waste of money and time.

TBH all the kooler needs is an extended molex lead to plug directly to the PSU.

This will assure the kooler fires when the rig is powered up.

RE: rheostats. I am alread undervolting the fan from 24V to 12V dropping anymore juice might be an issue anyway...but it is worth checking the situation out. For as big as it is the fan is really not annoyingly loud at 12V.

Another option which might be worth considering would be a 24V PSU to take full advantage o the Uber Fan. But that's something that could be added down thee road.

More Monday

So there won't be any fans on the rads? :S

That is NUTS! (pun intended, on the acorn screws )

Good luck keeping your hearing on that fan, seems like it pushes enough air, eh?

Love the angle aluminum work. The mark of a true craftsman is when all the angles line up right

Thanks Burn. It's more than doubling my cost in aluminum to sandwich the acrylic. The small angle is about $28 per 8 foot length and the wide angle is about $40 per 8 foot length.

Like the upgrade to hardlines the upgrade to heavier angle is adding to the materials cost. My fee for the labor will remain unchanged despite it taking longer due to yet another upgrade from pop rivets to screws.

The plus side is it is massively strong and it would not be too hard too change out a single panel at some point (think ETCHING )and looks way more pro.

Yes there will be nofans on the rads the singl fan will be mor than adequate and box acts as a duct. One of the reasons I went with Push instead of pull is to make sure the Sonex will stay put once I turn the fan on

Now if the client would just weigh in on this thread....

Anyway tomorrow I will be finishing the last two panels and mounting the gear.

If this Kooler was for me I would want to polish all the aluminum...but that would easily double the cost of the labor so it will just be an option that Antesignani can take or leave. Polishing 16 angles is an all day affair.
