And I passed. ![]() PS: Looking good there. I like the way its coming up, the only thing is those Sata cables at the top... can you hide those a bit better? I dont like how they go across like that.

They are not very flexible. Right angle ones are oriented the wrong way.
Tried my hand at solder the LEDs and stopped in frustration...I need thinner wire or something. Trying to figure out how to get heatshrink on there was depressing me...thought I'd sleep on it

Okay Snow has melted...roads are passable...I received the Thermalrite ultra-120 and now it's SHOW time.
Should have the irg up and running sometime tonight. No soundcard from Frys...but maybe later today UPS will try to make it up the hill. I ran into the UPS guy yesterday and he said he had nothing for me. I scraped the road but UPS has a lot of trouble gettin up the mountain...2WD lol. Anyway I am off to the shop: it's 50F and feels like a good day for building a rig. More soon.

All the parcel services (UPS, FedEx, USPS) hate my driveway in the winter 'cuz it's all dirt, so it freezes over VERY well with ice and snow and the like...And there's a big hill just for kicks ![]()

Okay I got the rig totally assembled and now will cross my fingers and hope it fires up. My main concern is the M-Blast remote control thinger that supposedly will start the rig with a push of the remote. When I used a jumpered PSU to test it I got nothing nada zip ZERO and am hoping that now it's all hooked up to the rig it will fire like a charm... If it doesn't I simply jumper the start button and go on. It could be it will need to be recognized via USB first. It came with a funky half-a-plug that I think I have oriented correctly. This is the one part of the documentation that is lacking. THe other option is to run a USB cable out the back and plug it into the backplane...which seems a bit fugly...but I will do what I gotta do to get it to work. I seriously DO NOT want to tear stuff apart. The giant heatsink is very nice to look at. The lap job from SVC is acceptable: not a mirror finish but definitely flat. My only gripe is that they made it so it is impossible to install with the mobo in place...and getting the mobo in place after the giant Heatsink is on can be a bit tricky. I think for the $100 Thermalrite or SVC should include and extra pair of clips in case the end use wants to run two fans. I mean for the 5 cents it would cost it sure would be a nice option. Once I got everything in place I discovered the 250mm fan on the side panel was touching the parts of the heatpipes that protrude thorugh the face of the fin-pack. I just about collapsed at the prospect of either not using the fan, relocating the fan on a custom window or using a different heatsink: none of those options was very appealling. But with a little work I was able to remove the sreas of the fan that conflicted with the heatsink without affecting it's performance and I got the side panel to close. There is NO room whatsoever. That out of the way I went ahead and routed the wire for the fan so it would be invisible once the panel is closed. It makes opening and closing the side panel a bit of an ordeal since the cable is a direct run to the mobo. I changed the molex to a three pin fan plug and sheathed the wiring and called it done. Going to eat and when I come back I will post up some pics to entertain you as I screw around with the SW the rest of the evening. Wife is taking the kids to a babysitter while she goes to class. This is a first and I really appreciate the break as it is not a lot of fun installing SW anyway...and even less so while singlehandedly caring for two younguns. The only thing I am now wanting is the Soundcard and a special cable I ordered from PPC. Since Monday is a holiday I doubt I will see them before Tuesday. A dissappointment to be sure. I would have thought Frys would be faster: I chose Priority. Anyway gotta fuel up. More soon.

I hope...
Have not fired the rig yet...wating for the house to settle down... Here's the final assembly shots. ![]() Where I left off ![]() ![]() ![]() P5K Deluxe/WiFi AP. A very solid board IMO and backed by Asus no hassle 3-year RMA policy. ![]() Q6600 and Giant Heatsink. Kind of funny how something so small needs something so large to stay cool ![]() ![]() Let's see what all the fuss is about. This is pretty much universally acknowledged as a superior heatsink. ![]() Sticker... ![]() Instruction Sheet that is in real english with pictures...amazing. ![]() This heatsink is very nicely made and quite heavy. ![]() Lap Job is okay...they should have done better IMO but w/e. ![]() brackets for AM2 and 775... ![]() ![]() Backingplate for 775: I feel this is probably the key to this cooler's success...the LGA 775 socket has some issues that only a good crush force seems to cure. ![]() G0 SLACR L747A152 and the chip code is nothing special (51) but we'll see how it runs. A quick pause and we'll go through the assembly process.
