Here's quicky worklog. I did this in the little space I had in my schedule as I awaited the Comsos case for flying A2.

I had a client comission a cube for testing fans (Vapor at XS forums) and rather than just slap something together with some rivets and call it a day I decided to dos this CyberDruid styley.

First thing I did was cut 6 identical .22 acrylic panels to 15" x 15" then I ran them through the saw again (found my acrylic blade yay) and put a 45 on each edge...24 beveled edges later I had me a cube:



That I taped together in order to get the dimension correct for the angles.

Now there are plenty of ways to do stuff but I tend to set up like I am doing production work. So I sized twelve pieces of angle using the table saw and crosscut attachment then I set up a stop on the mitrebox and double mitred each corner. This allows for a fairly precise way to do repetive cuts...considering I had to make 48 mitre cuts that needed to be perfect it worked out.

Then I set up a fixture and a stop and used the Drill press to put three holes in each of the twelve pieces...again identically. This way the parts can "mix 'n match" and I eliminate a lot of puzzling with them after paint.

Self Etching Primer is NASTY


Pefect weather for painting 15% humidity barely a breeze.


I prefer Duplicolor: it's pretty tough stuff. The Wheel enamel I chose is the toughest stuff they sell I think.


The color is called Graphite. That's after two coats of color.



I like that sparkle.

Going out to squirt a final coat now and then I'll be moving to a different project as this cures.

How are you going to use the cube to test fans? i dont really see it ....

He has some sort of fancy test apparatuis that inserts into an 80mm hole (to be routed) and then another hole in an adjacent panel is for the test fan. I am making up a number of mounting plates so that he can easily swap from 80mm, 92mm, 120mm, or 120mm as required.

I'll cut a 6" square in the panel and then I have 4 10" x10" lexan panels for the fans.

I'll drill and mount some machine screws to the panel and drill holes to receive those in the lexan plates and use gasket material to assure a good seal and thumbnuts to secure the lexan plate. That way removing the plates is simple.

Shoot...nothin to it mang.

Paint cured up nice over night but I must resist the urge to assemble...one thing I have learned the hard way is to leave painted stuff alone for at least 5 days.
