The program works on any card basically. But a workstation card is design with special code in mind that works specifically for this sort of induistrial renedering SW. If you look on NewEgg at the Quadro cards you'll notice a significant bumpo in cost. There are ways to soft mod some Nvidia cards to play like a Quadro but I have not tried it. The feature is in the Riva Tuner menu.

I think it is mainly about accuracy and speed for deep 3D renedering with thousands of points that have to be in critical alignment...out Gaming cards have the speed in Aces, but accuracy is less than that of the workstation cards. Just a guess.

The main difference between cad card and gaming cards is like CD said the accuracy , plus cad cards have the full open gl language, where gaming cards only have it partially implimented.
