What do you use for CAD? I use CADVANCE 98 and AutoCAD 2000i.

The time it takes has a lot a variables, 2d? 3d? using raw dimensions to design something new? how complex? how many parts.
A simple flat mounting bracket with 4 holes could take as litte as 15 minutes, some jobs because of complexity could take days. Once I see the job i can give a rough estimate on how long it will take. I'm using Autocad 2005.

I've got a 2D layout for a waterblock here and ready to go...it just needs each of the different areas made into the correct depth - e.g. the base, the fins, etc...
I've heard WinPC - the software the machine comes with - has problems if you use the AutoCAD thickness attribute? How would you make my 2D layout into 3D?

I would redraw and use extrude and other 3d shape commands.

I think this is the most appropriate place to post this question as there isn't anything else on OCN about CAD, the recommended requirements for graphics card for 3d work in AUTOCAD 2009 is:
"1280 x 1024 32-bit color video display adapter (True Color) 128 MB or greater, OpenGL®, or Direct3D® capable workstation class graphics card. For Windows Vista, a Direct3D capable workstation class graphics card with 128 MB or greater is required" The bit I'm not sure about is the 'workstation class graphics card', I've got a 8800GT, does that count as workstation class? If I run 3d stuff on a computer that has say... Intel INTEGRATED 128mb graphics, will there be lag or will the program not work at all? Your help will be much apreciated as I cannot find the answers to these questions anywhere else. REP+ will be passed around where appropriate.
