Well if I get lucky my Wife will slip out for a bit and I can put some acrylic in the oven

I made up the forms for the louver operation but may need to make yet one more part to control the process.

I fooled around with the torch and some scrap and did get some louvers...but was not impressed: they are not uniform enough. I also cannot apply the heat to the entire sheet evenly enough with a torch to get the sheet limp without bubbling the edges...

So when I get a chance I will run a test in the oven at 250F and see what happens...

Euro and his Pheonix build did this with his sweet custom fans ducts. He baked them up for a while, took it out and then forced it around his mold to make its a cylinder.

I started with some aluminum strips in a piece of chipboard

Cut some slots in a scrap of plastic

The slots and strips align so I can use the strips to support the plastic as it softens

This being a test I was heavy with the torch to get fast results regardless...

It sort of works...I would heat an area and press it down with a block

That's about fugly yes?

Irregular, warpy, bubbled...a complete reject but it did learn me sumthin

Did I mention working with plastic is messy?

Some additional forms to help control the shaping process.

So much fun!

I then cut two pieces that would slide over the form and clamp the piece to keep it from warping.

I tried the torch but the results were dismal...need the oven. Even then I may need to make another set of forms to press the louvers into shape...I was hoping that once the plastic becomes limp it will settle down over the form...we'll see.

Well the Wife went out..the plastic went into the oven...but she got back before the acrylic could really get limp...I did get a semi louver out of the deal but I also learned me sumthin.

Looks like I will need to make another part for the form to push the louvers down...sort of a mirror of the existing piece. Does not need to be perfect...does need to push the plastic into the V part of the form...

The clamp idea did keep the piece more or less straight. I think I can make this work...but I will have to wait till the Wife is out for at least an hour
