Got the corner posts glued into place and I got the shellac lightly sanded. Next I'll miter-cut up and glue the top and bottom rails in place. These get some finnicky routings so I cannot just slap them on..it's a bit more involved.
Been taking some shots as I go along but I am waiting until I get a little further before I post the up. Hang tough.

That sounds great, CD. I'm nagging my contact upon getting me this friggin' PSU ASAP. Hopefully it's in my possession before the weekend. Found some stuff to stick the tubing through also. Don't know the English term for it.
![]() I'm considering one of these two. This will guide the 230V PSU-line through the backwall: ![]() Sure Chris! But I'll set up a perimeter around the enclosure the first two weeks. Starting to get many visitors here. Maybe I'll borrow my friends Rottweiler too. Just in case.

Through hole? I dunno. Looks cool though.
Made some progress today. I've been going back and forth on some aesthetic points that were stalling me. The transition from the vertical corner posts to the horizontal trim that builds up the top was the main issue. I finally resolved it to my satisfaction and was able to come up with the numbers I needed to plane the horizontal pieces down and chamfer the edges. What was bugging me was the visual weight of the different moldings...the cornerposts are massive and the trim I originally envisioned up top would be too light. At the same time I didn't want the enclosure to be too clunky or huge overall...so I decided to break up the transitions with some 45 degree angles. Following pics follow the process. ![]() After getting a couple of cornerposts glued up I decided this would be the best point to block sand the shellac before I started trapping all the edges with more trim. ![]() Looks fugly now but when I stain and spray the trims I'll lay down more shellac on the panels too and bring out the color and grain. It's delicate work with 320 as it only takes a swipe too many to burn through the color. ![]() Each corner post is a pretty involved process. Frrst I tape off the panel to help keep glue up clean and to have some demarcation for thesanding and application of glue. ![]() Just enough..not too much. ![]() The all important ooze. This gets wiped up with a rag stretched over a thin putty knife. ![]() Using blocks to prevent any marring from the clamps ![]() After pulling tape and wiping with a damp cloth ![]() Pretty clean joint there if I do so day myself. ![]() And repeat. Last of the 4 corners. ![]() ![]() Shellac knocked down inside and out and ready for a proper cleaning. ![]() Removable panel in place for a look see. ![]() Sappelle moldings. It might look like Mahogany but it's a PITA to cut without chipping: hard ![]() Chamfered edges...you'll see why. ![]() This was nerve racking. Ran the cornerpost across the router too. If these had blown out I think I would have just refuinded Kmosabi's payment and had a new target for the pistol range... ![]() But I pulled it off and got all 8 end chamfered without anything untoward occurring. ![]() ![]() This is going to me an intermediary trim that will make a transition from the cornerposts to the large trim that tops the whole unit. ![]() The hell is that? ![]() ![]() Just holding the piece up there after chamfeering the upper edge on the router for a look. ![]() ![]() Now after it's been miter cut to a 45. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fun stuff but how the hell is that supposed to attach? ![]() This is how I intedn the trim to lay onto the top ![]() A veneered piece of ply is waht will hold the intermediary and top trims together..keeps it simple and gives me something to bond everything together. ![]() So here we are...a pile of weird looking wood... ![]() ![]() It took a number of steps to get this trim made...truing the plank on the saw and planer then ripping to size and then planing S4S and then back to the saw for the rabbet and chamfer cuts and finall onto the router for the little chamfer up top. ![]() These will be the pieces I start with. I'll glue them up like picture frames and then lay out the top trims to get my X and Y for the venered panel. Then I'll cut that piece of ply, veneer and stains and seal it and use that to support the trim as it glues up. The raw edge of the ply will make a strong bond to the top trim and raw bottom will bond to the small chamfered intermediary trim... As you can see still lots to go...but at least I have broken the log jam.

Oh and I am seriously running low on material. I have just enough Sappelle and Mahogany to make the base trim which will be a bit different than the top..

That's some great work right there! Good to see that you're willing to take some risks in order to achieve a perfect end result(the corner-post routing I mean). All that great molding-work reminds me of another cool nautical-era, the 17th century. Yarrrrrrrr!!

Working on gluing up the intermediary trims at the moment. I replicated that odd shaped top molding out of a piece of Sappelle. The pieces in the pics above are of Mahogany and I decided they will be used for the base trim. I'm much happier with the pieces I just made...Sappelle is in every way a more interesting grain to look at...tighter with more figure. And no worm holes
![]() I'll post up some pics when I get the top and bottom assemblies a little further along.
