It's so easy to see when a craftsman has been involved. Even on a rough mock-up. Can't wait to see the veneer man!

The first phase of assembly is complete. The enclosure is glued together and ready for prep work. There are a number of other parts that will need to be added to the enclosure after it has been veneered. the raw edges of the plywood need to be bound with Mahogany strips around the opening. This zone will see the most wear and tear and needs more than a veneer edgebanding.

Top and bottom get two panels each applied which I will show you later. The panels will break up the "Boxey" look of the unit and give it more of a "Pedestal" look. I'll do this by edging the the panels in solid Mahogany and routing the middle one to put a profile on it and add some subtle visual detail. A heaver molding will be applied ove the veneer on the top and bottom panels. A 1/4" high lip on the upper panel with a bar-rail type profile will make a "Tray" to "Serve Up" the TJ-07. The Molding applied to the base will mirror the top profile but simple serve as adde protection from wear and tear on the veneer.

The removable side panels will get bound in Mahogany and be rabbetted on top and bottom to accomodate the Mahogany edge of the enclosure opening. This will assure their alignment with the enclosure and provide yet more rigidity when in place. They will be secured with ball and cup type black nylon hidden marine catches.

As usual it is the preparation which will consume 90% of the time. Besides gluing on a bunch of strips I'll be filling and blocking out out any defects or irregularities in the surface. Veneer is about the thickness of a matchbook cover. There is no room for blocking out ripples in the surface after applying the veneer.

Nothing much to jump around about and soon here I will have to shut down the PCs in the shop because a severe T-storm is right overhead but here are some shots to tide you over while I sand away my evening.

Everything that is about to glue up is painted with a thin layer of Franklins Titebond II.

I like to see a little ooze.

Broke a good sweat scrubbing down the trim. Then I went down to the shop and worked on your rad box.

Thanks. It's a lovely day which means tending the grounds. I have a lot of chores backed up due to rain. I'll see what I can get done this weekend but it's the typical juggling of time between kids, chores and projects. I would like to have the dusty work behind me and focus on assembly Monday. So I'll probably fill all the screw holes and other cavities and block that down.
