Well I have the cabinet setting upright. so yay.

I decided the molding on the front of the top was wrong so I cut it off and made a new piece. Looking much nicer. Have to wait 24 hours now for the stain to set and then I'll get some gloss on there. Weather is twitchy here. Every day about this time a massive black cloud forms off in the distance in the same place: I think it's a clash between hot and cold fronts. Lots of wind too.

Should have the new piece ready to epoxy onto the top in a day or so. In the meantime I will be getting all the little jobs ticked off my list. So far the cabinet is meeting my expectations...no unforseen weirdness.

The chronicles continue. Top sans front trim is glued in. Delrin Filport is installed. Cleats for the removable back top and bottom are glued in place.


Venus appreciated my presence in the shop and celebrated by taking a nap...even though the compound miter is about a foot away...

Heavier and with a deeper sweep to the top the new trim follows the profile of the vertical face trim and caps it off with an 1/8" overhang front and back.


I used a select piece of oak with medulary rays, flecks and tight grain.


The top slot gets a removable mesh filter insert similare to those on the NorseRad.


The trim piece needs some poly and then I'll epoxy it to the top.


Top will get 2-3 more coats of poly once I get the trim caught up with 3 coats.


The back doesn't look too bad either. I need to mask out and spray a large Wyvern logo on there


Bottom cleat glued in place with epoxy and colloidal silica.


Top cleat epoxied in place in the same manner


The trim after the stain has set and been buffed out with a clean rag.


With the finish the rays and flakes will really stand out.


Hole for the filport made with a Forstner bit: no tear out.


Bottom hole is larger and recessed for the tightening ring.


There it is: my favorite adhesive.



Masked off and ready for action.


Clamped up. Note stiffback clamped to top to keep it flat as the epoxied cleat sets up.


I used the fine wood powder with the epoxy this time to blend in with the finish and hide the glue seam.


Front trim piece will go there.


And there you have it.
