Yeah it has the speaker look.
No horns though...just filters. Back is somewhat better and the weather is seriously weird. Rain for days now cold and foggy with sun breaking through. Both sides got their first coat and now I need to waiot for the panels to dry rock hard so I can layout for the biscuits and start test fitting all the parts. Plan is to dry fit the unit then take it apart and put two more coats of poly on then assemble. Still have some odd things to do, like the PSU and HDD enclosure. And mobo tray. And optical bay. Lot's actually left to do.

So far so good. Stopped raining today but never got over 75F. So the finish is still very soft and some areas are still tacky. I really need a hot dry day to cook this stuff so I can get my bench back.
Oh to have a larger shop...with climate control.

I would have gone with a semi Gloss. Gloss is just too shiny for me and most clients. Oh yea.. if you have any humidity that stuff will turn as white as paint when you apply. Wait until it is completely dry or turn your a/c in the room down really low to dry out the air..

Caliga specified gloss. So gloss it is. Shellac hates humidity which is why I used polyurethane. The finish is looking good because it is so thin it lays right into all that heavy oak grain and really accentuates it. Rather than try and fill all that grain with shellac to get a mirror finish I will simply lay on two more thin coats and let it be.
The poly will protect the wood from dirt and abrasions and of course bring out the color and grain. The amount of work required to create a perfectly flat and flawless finish is well outside the budget of most people. Finishers spend weeks to achieve that sort of "piano" lacquer look and you will almost never find oak with that finish. Part of the beauty of flat sawn oak is that it has a pronounced grain and the variations in the surface are part of that appeal. I hope that by mid day tomorrow I can start handling the pieces and get going on the assembly.

Had to battle the bugs the past few days. Harlequin (stink) bugs live up to 5 years..they hibernate through the winter...so now they are swarming for cover as Fall returns....
It's like a Hitchcock film...it got pretty ugly when I finally caved in and commenced Chemical Warfare. The panels were finally dry enough to stack and cover and I set off 4 foggers. 4 hours later the shop was carpetted in dead and dying bugs...and they just kept falling and buzzing erratically through the air for nearly a day afterward..it was truly nightmarish. The cat had the good sense to GTHO but I was on a mission and proceeded to vacuum the shop about every fifteen minutes for the rest of the day and into the night... I did have to take cover at times, the hardy bugs would take hours to die and in kamikaze style would fly directly at me depositing their filthy stench wherever they landed. By nightfall it was cold enough the little bastards were out of energy and I could more easily vaccum them up...but they just kept coming and coming. I could vacuum the shop and turn around and find dozens had landed on the floor or made for the screens...and back I'd go, vacuum howling. Eventually there was about 3" of bug carcasses in the vacuum...truly demented. Today only a few stray bugs have crawled out to die...I feel the war is over...for now. Hard to do fine woodwork when bugs are littering every flat surface in the shop. And what really sucks is these bugs are foreign invaders...they arrived about 2 years ago.

What's even harder to believe is that Harlequin bugs are an ingredient in certain Mexican Dishes
