Don't use CoreTemp for 45nm CPUs, use RealTemp

Intel Overclocker

core temp shows 52c for my q6600 with thermaltake i1 cooler while real temp shows 47c. And both only show one core, device manager shows all 4 though? Any advice?

CoreTemp is correct. RealTemp is for 45nm procs.

The Q6600 - B3 Quads are built using 2 E6600 B2 Dual cores. Guess what? Both of those cores were TjMax=85C. Even CoreTemp agrees with that so why do people assume that the B3 Quad is TjMax=100C?
The B3 is TjMax = 85C. That's why the original Q6600 had trouble with thermal throttling when using the Intel HSF. That's why they raised TjMax when they released the G0. I tested my Q6600 - G0 with an IR thermometer and it showed TjMax=95C, not 100C. I guess we'll have to wait for the Intel Developer's Forum this week to hopefully find out the real truth. |
