Default RealTemp

Program Category: Temperature Monitoring

From Publisher:
Quote:
RealTemp is compatible with any version of XP or Vista, 32 or 64 bit. In Vista or if you are in a limited account, you will need to right click on the icon and run RealTemp as an Administrator so that the driver will be properly installed.

RealTemp is a temperature monitoring program designed for all Intel single Core, dual Core and quad Core processors. Each core on these processors has a digital thermal sensor (DTS) that reports temperature data relative to TjMax which is the safe maximum operating core temperature for the CPU. As your CPU heats up, your Distance to TjMax will decrease. If it reaches zero your processor will start to throttle or slow down so obviously maximizing your distance away from TjMax will help your computer to run at full speed and more reliably too.

Core temp is still more accurate

At idle this shows 20 and 22

Core temp 26 and 27

And considering my ambient is 18 i dont think it would only be 4 degress higher

Besides apparently in production when the temp probe thing is placed if it is out by 1mm can give 5+c difference in readings so all in all temps are probably best used as a 'rough indicator' at best.
When you have a core reading a different temp from another core its more than likely due to the sensor rather than the actual core heating differently.

RT is more accurate for my setup. Its good to have it here in the DL section. If it works then use it if not then don't. Thanks mega.

Exactly

I am trying to give more "Temperature Monitoring" alternatives for our members/guests to experiment with. This particular application was brought to my attention, as in some cases it recorded better then Core Temp.

isn't real temp best used with the 45nm chips anyways?

Hmm, I'm not sure what to trust here. Core temp reads low 40C idle for my Q6600@ 3.7ghz and real temp reads 33-33-25-28 idle. My ambient is 19-20C, so it's believable. I would love to believe real temp, but I'm not quite sure

I've heard that RealTemp is more accurate for the 45nm processors. I would trust Core Temp in your case
